Men get their own loos - women's made unisex!

This is just down the road from me and it's where I often shop. In fact, I'm going there tomorrow. Appalled by this! I'm sure men had cubicles in their loos so why the change? Why is it always women asked to budge up to make toilets more inclusive!? Glad to see lots of men are objecting to this too!

This has been quietly happening for a couple of years. 1st place I saw it was public loos in a park in Crawley - men’s stayed men’s. Women became unisex. In a park with a petting zoo, mainly used by women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 16:55

"Not happy to use a urinal"

It's not so much a matter of whether women are "happy" to use urinals as it is a "could I do with without showing the whole world my arse and pissing all over myself".

If we could at least admit that male and female humans have different anatomy that would be great.

(I am so tired of this conversation.)

sleepyhead · 15/06/2020 16:56

I'd say the most sensible thing would be to make the men's unisex with the cubicles before the urinals so you don't have to walk past them, and leave the women's toilets as a female only space.

Or, have single sex toilets and a unisex toilet.

Making female toilets unisex always strikes me as a spiteful retaliation - we were meant to play nice, back down, express our female socialisation and just let anyone who identified as belonging in the ladies into the ladies. When we said no, the response is to take the women's toilets away.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 15/06/2020 16:56

Would the unisex toilets be a problem for some Muslim women (and maybe some women of other religions too) who would never be alone with a man they're not related to?

Does this count as discrimination against them do you think? As facilities are provided for other people but not them?

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 15/06/2020 16:57

Just thought about this.
There are quite a lot of south Asian families in the surrounding towns. How are the women and girls going to go to the toilet now?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 16:58

The one toilet for men and one for everyone thing was what peaked my not at all feminist stepmother. She went off on a "why don't men have to share theirs?" rant. In that case it was in a bar so literally two rooms with a toilet and a sink each, but one was labelled "men" and the other "unisex", and the "unisex" one had the walls plastered in soft core porn.

It really is TRAs who create "T*RFS", mostly by making such a fucking nuisance of themselves.

(Again, tired, all out of have enough energy to be polite fucks.)

Lexilooo · 15/06/2020 16:59

There is always someone who says they have unisex loos at work and it is fine.

It is very different using a unisex loo where you will only be sharing with colleagues (whether in an office, factory, warehouse or in a staff only area of a shop). There is a huge incentive for men to follow basic levels of behaviour at work and there are consequences if they don't. They are also identifiable and traceable.

It is totally different to a shopping centre, bar, night club or train station.

I am not saying that mixed loos are ok in the workplace but I think the risks are much less than with public toilets.

newrubylane · 15/06/2020 16:59

Well no, I quite agree. I was sort of trying to avoid the phrase 'people with penises' - 1. Because they couldnsue the single lockable loos, and 2. Because if you don't designate them to a specific sex/gender the TRAs can't start a fight about it. Basically my point is use a urinal if you wish. If you don't 'wish' to, then individual lockable cubicles with full individual facilities and no gaps top and bottom would mean they are suitable for whoever. Nowhere is gender/sex mentioned, no fight needed, everyone is ok with it.

newrubylane · 15/06/2020 17:00

*could use

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 17:01

I think you've forgotten about how much men like planting hidden cameras to catch footage of women pissing. Awfully easy to do that in a lockable cubicle that everyone can use.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 17:03

Re unisex loos at work, I've heard of multiple cases where they were implemented and people just kept using the loos they always had in terms of which was the men's and which was the women's, so the only difference was in the signs. Most people really don't like unisex facilities.

jbee1979 · 15/06/2020 17:06

I got into a massive FB fight about this yesterday, it all started with the OP of the FB post mansplaining CIS, and trying to teach XX women that they're CIS. I was repeatedly told that nothing was being taken away from me, it's all in my head, I'm abhorant for not wanting to share, TWAW. It left me in a really bad place. I can't believe their are so many women ready to accept this claptrap AND fight with other women about it, in the nastiest way possible. They quoted links for PinkNews to educate ME on MY bigotry. The pile-on got worse and worse until I deleted everything and left the group, it had been intercepted my a trans warrior with the purpose of sharing a petition to NOT redo the consultation on the GRA, after the first one got hijacked. I bit at CIS, and ended up fighting with pigs, getting dirty, and they loved it. I despair.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 17:08

I honestly think online spaces that have been infiltrated by TRAs are mostly a lost cause. I used to be in one too, after it got taken over all the interesting women left and now it's just angry people shouting about gender identity and bad GIFs.

SerendipityJane · 15/06/2020 17:12

So pleased disabled provision was sorted out before this all kicked off. Otherwise it would have been a really shit time to be less able.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 15/06/2020 17:14

The unfairness incenses me to be honest

I was in a m and s service station, one cubicle for women, baby change and disabled

The gents must have had one cubicle and numerous urinals

I was third in the queue, while i was there at least 15 men went in and out of the gents

Door opened and a suited and booted man walked out, i was So gob smacked that all i could say was ‘is he taking the piss’

You wanna make a loo unisex...crack on with the gents, leave the woman’s alone

(I appreciate that the cockwomble in the ladies was just an ignorant fuck wit, but they don’t need fucking encouraging)

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 15/06/2020 17:15

Absolutely
PineappleUpsideDownCake · 15/06/2020 17:24

My kids used to belong to the local swimming club, mixed chamging but individual cubicles.

I was shocked when we got the letter from the pastoral coach explaining that there had been incidents of cameras being put under girls lockers and to be aware 😔.

And this was just within a local swimming pool. It absolutely happens.

BobbieDraper · 15/06/2020 17:31

@RufustheRowlingReindeer

He could very well have been disabled, had a stoma bag for whatever. Men are very much allowed to use disabled toilets when available and if they need them.

Your anger should be with the service station for providing men with their own, but making women, disabled and baby change share.

BobbieDraper · 15/06/2020 17:32

*or whatever

InfiniteSheldon · 15/06/2020 17:47

I don't understand why the urinals mean women can't go in. Is it because we might catch sight of a penis and faint with shock? If so why do we have to lose women's toilets and endure unisex ? Or is it because it would upset the men? If so why doesn't the fact that unisex upsets women matter Or is it because women are vulnerable to male violence? In which case again why are unisex OK.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 15/06/2020 17:49

Thats a very fair point actually bobbie

And im usually quite good with the ‘people have hidden disabilities’ so i really should have thought of that

Luckily i was so gob smacked that i didnt say anything to him

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 15/06/2020 17:50

And yes my anger was definitely at the service station!

JellyfishandShells · 15/06/2020 17:53

They did this at a theatre I went to before lockdown - at a theatre where the interval queues for the womens' ones are always huge and the mens' tiny ( which is why one sometimes has to risk it, with the aid of a lookout)

JellyfishandShells · 15/06/2020 17:57

Exhibitionism an entirely unknown trait in the male population - some of whom would get a particular kick at any glimpses beinng had.

And, no, I don't want to see random penises - the question is , why do you ?

I

InfiniteSheldon · 15/06/2020 18:27

You've mistaken my point Jelly . My point was I don't and the men of my acquaintance don't want random women to see them hence men's toilets being protected spaces. But that same respect is not accorded to us.
