You're all brilliant

Just that really. You have sown the seeds with so many, and helped people understand the issues in great detail. You have inspired people to take action and supported people under attack. You inspired me to take my small action (the Jo Swinson woman call) and many others to chip away at this harmful ideology. It's been a tough few days with JK Rowling but this Times headline gives me hope. Huge thank you to you all,
Anna x

Agreed. Many amazing posters here.

It might get dark online again for a while but all we can do is keep pushing on and patiently challenging everything.

FloralBunting · 14/06/2020 07:45

This has taken a huge toll on my mental health. And it isn't even slightly over, sadly, the pushback against women will continue.

But JK Rowling's bravery and the tenacity of the Baroness means that a blazing light has been shone on all that has been so carefully curated and hidden by strategic transactivists.

This is like Gandalf appearing with the morning sun - the battle is still to be fought, but there is no hiding in the shadows now.

Press on. Stand fast. But, my word, take heart that what you do when you stand for the rights of women and girls does matter.

It may get rougher before it's over, Isanguard has fallen....

Cuntysnark · 14/06/2020 08:11

I hear you. JKR has ovaries of steel, she has beautifully shown the world who we are battling, and who is either complicit or cowardly, by standing with them, and that is priceless.

PumbaasCucumbas · 14/06/2020 08:11

Flowers Floral, I just wanted to say thank you to you and all the wonderful ladies on here who patiently teach and discuss these issues. I’ve particularly found your contributions from the perspective of church/religious influences wrt feminism really insightful. It’s such a difficult time with corona as well, I hope you’re getting chance to take care of yourself in it all.

I always found R0wantrees an absolute font of knowledge too (anyone know how she is, haven’t seen her name here for ages?)

I had my husband spontaneously criticising Radcliffe/Redmayne without me saying anything about it yesterday and there have been so many new posters here lately. People are opening their eyes. The TRAs have completely pushed their luck and are naive to think that the real world is at all like Twitter. They might shout loudly but in a democracy we all count an equal vote (thanks again suffragettes, your legacy lives on too). Keep fighting you wonderful, dignified women and never be underestimated, every human owes their life to a woman and we’re not going away Grin

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/06/2020 08:15

Agreed. You wonderful women. Flowers

OhHolyJesus · 14/06/2020 08:17

I came on to say thank you too

Thank you for the education and support - I was late to the party. Sorry about that, I'm here now

Thank you for all the debate which has been robust - I personally feel like I should now take the bar exam having had a good few challenges here and seen how others do it well!

Thank you for helping me to get off Twitter

And so, so much more
The friendship
The learning, the evidence and link shares and by goodness the pure comedy gold! I truly adore you all (and I still miss Lang and Orchid).

MN you have your faults but you remain firm in providing us the chance to speak freely here. Please hold firm now, the attacks will be ramping up again this week I'm sure. Don't let us down.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 14/06/2020 08:20

Yes, you are. Thank you, women of FWR. And thank you Mumsnet.

aliasundercover · 14/06/2020 08:42

The people here have been great since I started reading (I joined at the time of Rubber-Wanks-At-Work-Man - what a week that was!)

But please, let's not celebrate anything yet. We're talking about Johnson, a man who doesn't believe in anything and changes his mind with the weather.
And TRAs will not rest. They've come close to their aim - the absolute abjection of women - and they're not going to go away.

bishopgiggles · 14/06/2020 09:28

FlowersCake Floral.
I'm not exaggerating when I say you lot have changed my life. R0 (I get momentarily confused when I see people talking about the R0 number), datun, Michelle, barracker, spero... the lot of ya. Lang is sorely missed. I'm gutted I didn't find this place earlier before so many left.

Although I'll say again, nothing has confirmed my views more than the self-declared TRAs and allies that have been unable to answer very basic questions on here.

NonnyMouse1337 · 14/06/2020 09:35

Thank you to all the wonderful women here who regularly share your insightful perspectives, your professional and personal knowledge, your wit and your experiences.
Thank you to Mumsnet for the online space for women to discuss their lives and their concerns in spite of all the pressures to stop us. I've learned so much from here.
And of course thanks to all the women who publicly or quietly in the background have helped protect the rights of women and children. Every email sent, petition signed, meeting attended, consultation filled, leaflet or poster handed out, door knocked etc counts.

Flowers

There is still a long way to go, but I am so happy to see the solidarity shown by women putting aside their differences, rolling up their sleeves and doing whatever they can, no matter how big or small, to ensure the rights of women and children are protected.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/06/2020 09:44

I agree that the contributors to Mumsnet FWR are a very bright, talented and courageous bunch. I read most threads and occasionally comment, I've been here 14 years under a few names. I wish there was one thread I could link to show a woke young relative of mine just why women are fighting to save their hard-won rights.

I don't like to end on a negative note but am still angry over the banning of Lang and Maryz.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/06/2020 09:53

I feel so proud and emotional today.

I'd taken a break for a while as this can be so draining and all consuming.

JKR brought me back. Her courage and the predictible response from her cowardly, backstabbing colleagues made me realise there is so much to do.

I have hope today and it is thanks to the bloody marvellous women here and the likes of JK Rowling who continue to fight with grace, humour and determination.

pinktaxi · 14/06/2020 09:53

Is this the announcement by the government of looking at 'self identifying', cracking down on bogus doctors and not being allowed to alter your birth certificate without undertake medical oversight? Also protecting woman only spaces, prisons etc.

OldeMagick · 14/06/2020 14:05

I'm so grateful to all the women who've fought tooth and nail to make this happen.

I fell down this rabbit hole a few years ago and have attended meetings and written to MPs and organisations who were only too happy to roll back our rights. I've signed petitions and spoken to people irl about the issue and with each action I've become braver and more outspoken.

Yes, it's taken a toll on my MH and there are times when I've been in despair, but I don't regret a damned thing. The things I've learned and the women I've met and become friends with, are worth all of the stress and pain and hardship.

On behalf of our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, our nieces and our granddaughters...

Thank you thank you thank you xxxxx

Goosefoot · 14/06/2020 16:17

It's good to have a place to talk about ideas, I'm so glad MN tries to make that happen. And there are great discussions here, I've not often had as many good ones since I was at university - lots of thoughtful people.

Blackdoggotmytonguestill · 14/06/2020 16:32

I’m even tempted to fork out for premium as recognition of the part this space has played as a meeting ground. I’ve felt really let down by mnhq stance at different times, but the iron grip on FWR does seem to have loosened slightly in this JKR phase. Allowing virtual discussion has been huge and will continue to be huge. The backlash is going to be something to behold. I’m actually really concerned, but clinging hopefully to the belief that it must be possible to provide protection against harassment and discrimination towards transpeople whilst recognizing the realities of sexed bodies and protecting single sex rights. Laws should not be drafted or amended on the basis that those who threaten and silence others are the only voices heard.

SarahTancredi · 14/06/2020 16:55

Yes the women on here are brilliant. If it wasnt for them of have remained oblivious so I thank them for opening my eyes as I still to this day struggle reconciling trying to be "nice" with it being ok to stand up for yourself and to speak up/tell the truth even if it's not what people want to hear.
And I have attempted to of course do my bit. I just sent a third email to be ignored to my mp Hmm

This lot help kick me up the arse to keep going even if its only small gestures at a time.

So thanks Flowers

And thanks to all the women we have lost on here too. Victims of the cancel culture and modern day burn the witch fate that befalls those who will not be told what they can say or believe.

MrsNoah2020 · 14/06/2020 17:36

I honestly think that, if it wasn't for FWR, Maria Miller would have succeeded in changing the GRA and stripping 30 million women of their sex-based rights. No wonder the TRAs hate us Grin. And it's too late now - even if we got shut down tomorrow, the issue is in the public domain, thanks to some incredibly brave women: JKR, Janice Turner, Maya, Sharron Davies, Martina etc, and to male allies like James Kirkup.

For years, the biggest barrier to protecting women's rights was getting anyone to believe what was happening. Most of the public simply refused to believe that the government was planning - in effect - to remove all sex-based rights and facilities by allowing self-ID. Now the cat is out of the bag. For 15 years, TRAs have had it all their own way. Now, finally, the public is starting to wake up.

We have a hell of a long way to go: the reaction to JKR has shown us how far. But TRAs will never now get away with sweeping changes to women's rights without at least a debate. And that is massive progress.

mcduffy · 14/06/2020 17:57

Agreed that the posters here have changed the world! I don't post loads but there are so many of us that learn from you, and I've taken this out into the real world and got involved in consultations and volunteering.

ValancyRedfern · 14/06/2020 20:02

MrsNoah - I've been feeling so low recently but your post has really buoyed me up. Thank you. And thanks to all the wonderful women of FWR.

OvaHere · 14/06/2020 20:16

Yes we are brilliant. Some posters here doubly so and some posters so utterly awesome they were targeted and banned because they were just that good.

I've also had my issues with HQ and the moderation here however we've held line and Mumsnet is a big part of that. If articles are written in twenty years time about this period it will be impossible to not mention the FWR board and our grassroots campaigns.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 14/06/2020 20:20

I agree. Amazing work but we know so much to do. But sunlight makes a difference!

LOLeater · 14/06/2020 20:35

Thank you. I read the posts and marvel at the knowledge and clarity I find here.

My thanks to all of the brave women (and some men) challenging the ignorance, lies and aggression of those who want to attack the sex-based rights of women.
