Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So I was deleted from a Harry Potter group on Facebook today.

So I'm a bit HP fan. Have been for years, and have been a member of a group on Facebook for Harry Potter fans for a long time (usually it's just pics of memorabilia, HP quizzes etc). Someone today posted about the JKR / trans debate saying they couldn't support her books anymore because she was transphobic. I replied saying I agreed with JKR, ad that whilst I had no issues with trans people per se I felt that sex was biologically determined and couldn't be changed, and that I had concerns about transwomen entering women's spaces (especially refuges, prisons etc) and about the fairness of transwoman competing in women's sport. At no point was I rude, abusive etc. Got a few replies etc (some supportive, some not, which was expected) and have just checked and it seems I have been removed from the group. I'm so pissed off! Why can't I politely express a different opinion? I have messaged admin to ask why exactly I have been removed but predictably not had a response. Why do biological women's voices have to keep being shut down just to please a small minority in the trans community?

Happy Potter fans who hate JKR are just going to spontaneously combust at some point 😂

My addition to this madness is the middle of this paragraph. "Non-trans-women" I've asked the poster if they refer to men as "non-trans-men"

So I was deleted from a Harry Potter group on Facebook today.

HP Fans Who Hate JKR will presumably appoint someone else as their author.

I'm sure many of you have already seen this video, but made me laugh.

Binglebong · 13/06/2020 13:23

I hadn't seen that Deanetta, thank you. Grin

NotTerfNorCis · 13/06/2020 13:31

If they don't like JK's views they should leave the group, not kick out the people who agree with her.

NotAGirl · 13/06/2020 13:47

And on twitter I've seen people now insisting Daniel Radcliffe was the author, like many of the other myths around trans beliefs those saying it know it's a lie but still say it

DESDEM0NA · 13/06/2020 13:49

@Userwhatevernumber

Because only their opinion is right and you are only allowed freedom of speech as long as it is what they want to hear. Narcissistic if you ask me.

I don’t disagree with you OP. It’s ridiculous.

This. You have been cancelled for WrongThink.
TitianaTitsling · 13/06/2020 13:53

I've also seen Ariana Grande and Emma Watson being credited.. the latter probably will try to take simpering acceptance of this!

Campervan69 · 13/06/2020 13:55

I got kicked out of a Labour party forum ages ago for similar views. I'd been in it for years. So I left the party altogether. Fuck em.

notyourhandmaid · 13/06/2020 14:00

Ah, I'm sorry, OP. This stuff is so sinister and frustrating.

Doyoumind · 13/06/2020 14:08

I do hope that at a certain point in the future these people look back with some shame.

I know a big HP fan. They wouldn't be on forums but I've had the gc discussion with them previously and we didn't agree. I haven't brought the subject up again but in light of recent events I might give it another go.

FWRLurker · 13/06/2020 14:09

Do you know any of the people that supported you? Maybe you can send them a PM so at least they will know what’s going on

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/06/2020 14:13

If they kick out anyone who agrees with her and all the people who disagree with her disavow HP it's going to to a very small group.

Goosefoot · 13/06/2020 14:33

I think what is going through people's mind is that this is the same as someone coming on a forum and saying something like "I don't have a problem with black people but I think they should have separate eating areas" and that would clearly be someone they don't want in their group.

There isn't really any ability to discern difference, so concerns about things like women's prisons, or even people making the wrong kind of comment about the cause of racism, is now forbidden.

KitKat1985 · 13/06/2020 18:03

That video is brilliant @Deanetta!

Trans critical thoughts are readily censored.

AnyOldPrion · 13/06/2020 18:14

Well, to go with the Emperor’s New Clothes analogy, you are the small boy who’s just pointed out the truth and if they let you do that, they’re very shortly going to look very stupid. That they threw you out is a sign of their insecurity. Sadly it doesn’t make the current situation any pleasanter to live through.

Blackdoggotmytonguestill · 13/06/2020 18:22

‘Fit is a feminist issue’ banned me because I posted that I felt really upset and let down that I had stood up for Caster Semenya for bloody years, believing that she was being unfairly policed for not performing femininity. I said that I felt gaslighted (gaslit?!) now that it had been made clear that she was a male with a DSD and had been knowingly competing as such.
Haven’t even been able to read the page since.
‘Feminist’ my arse.

Maria1921 · 13/06/2020 18:34

@KitKat1985

I vaguely remember a YouTuber talking about how she was chucked off a knitting forum for views deemed unacceptable. Any advance on knitting

Yes. I was instantly ejected and banned from my trade union women's committee FB group because I posted a link on my timeline to a newspaper story regarding transactivist militants blocking women from entering a meeting.

Freespeecher · 13/06/2020 21:26

Maria1921
Being chucked off a women's committe FB group for raising concerns about the treatment of women? Ok, you win.

Maria1921 · 16/06/2020 20:44

Freespeecher

Afterwards I had a look at a photo of the chairperson and she looked awfully, well, manly.

spongedog · 01/07/2020 22:53

Well I thought some of you would like to see the post today from Mugglenet.com

I posted a reply. In fact this reply - I kept a copy because I knew it was highly likely to be deleted. And it was - no reason given. Some of the comments are slightly supporting JKR, but most have drunk kool-aid.

"I cant disagree with you more. Transgender women are not women. That is biology. That is their sex - it might not be their gender. The 2 are quite different. JK Rowling has not published harmful or disproven beliefs. But she has published facts. What I find really distasteful and hypocritical is that you have made personal and likely financial gain from someone where you despise their beliefs. Time for you to have some principles, benefit no more from her work, and step away to stand on your own 2 feet. I wish you well and lots of luck in that journey to create your own world, your own writing and your own belief system. "

So who is this organisation - founded in 1999 in the US as a fan site. Interestingly the founder's twitter feed has nothing about the site. I wonder if he is even still involved. Perhaps it is time to counter -attack on organisations that promote this twaddle?

So I was deleted from a Harry Potter group on Facebook today.

I was muted from a group for asking, literally asking, what misgendering meant. I was told I needed to "educate" myself.

Nothing to do with wokeness or anything, random baby group.
