I cant really blame the SNP exclusively, although they bear a large responsibility

Please post evidence of the utter shitshow that is now Scottish politics, in terms of women's rights.

Please start similar for the other UK countries.

So, just within the SNP we have the Women's Officer Rhiannon Spear tweeting against JK Rowling but claiming she never said sex and gender were the same (ha! she was on the telly last night talking about gender markers on driving licences), a female MP Kirsty Blackman denying our sex completely by saying transwomen are adult human females - and Ruth Maguire, Gillian Martin and Joan McAlpine MSPs all speaking up for women.

Joanna Cherry MP also speaking up loud and clear for women, but we're still waiting on an apology from the disgraceful Mhairi Black MP calling us "Jeremy Hunts" and taking a drag queen into a primary school.

What a conflicting mess, just within the one party. Complete with a whole bunch of quivering souls too feart to earn their salary and speak up. Nicola Sturgeon for one.

Cismyfatarse1 · 13/06/2020 07:31

Kate Forbes is firmly inside.

Ian Blackford is a smug, misogynistic wanker.

Cismyfatarse1 · 13/06/2020 07:32

Onside. Let's hope she's inside but I can't tell from here.

Another for the Naughty Step: John Nicolson, (SNP) MP for Ochil and South Perthshire

(1) April 2020: tweeted repeatedly asking men to come on his Talk Radio programme to discuss what should be done about women who are not willing to give up sex as a protected category without a discussion. Those men mostly said: maybe ask a woman who's been working on these issues - here are some contacts. (Just one example, with links to others: twitter.com/MrJohnNicolson/status/1252364720612376581)

(2) Women (including his constituents) who offered to come on the show or to recommend an expert, and men who supported them, were then blocked. Was called out by many, including LGB Alliance, for systematically snubbing women on a set of issues that disproportionately impacts women. A partial list of blockings, just to show the scale and immediacy, some in embedded tweets: twitter.com/DiscerningCrit1/status/1256246976913584128

(3) Apparently blamed LGB Alliance for the tweetdown he received, and on his show denounced them as a hate organisation. Several people asking for evidence of his allegation or providing evidence to the contrary were blocked. LGB Alliance asked the public to make direct donations, if they could, in the name of someone who had slandered the organisation and then tweeted out the accompanying notes. Not surprisingly, Mr. Nicolson was a popular choice: twitter.com/ALLIANCELGB/status/1267156935897481230

(4) Allegedly used his constituency office staff to run a campaign - during COVID lockdown!! - to cut off LGB Alliance's JustGiving and GoFundMe campaigns. The tweets of him taking credit for this are no longer available, but here's a critical thread with screenshots: twitter.com/AugustaAndarta/status/1255871327191347200 and another thread from a supporter celebrating his "victory" with additional Nicolson screen caps: twitter.com/MichaelSturrock/status/1255568047747760132. And an excellent thread detailing the full set of events critically: twitter.com/TwisterFilm/status/1260950542991478785

In the same time period Nicolson allegedly sent another tweet, now deleted but captured here, erroneously alerting Police Scotland (again, busy with actual work, during a global pandemic) that LGB Alliance "is" funded by far right foreigners: twitter.com/RebelFairyJewel/status/1253964619523280896

(5) Used his Talk Radio programme AGAIN to denounce LGB Alliance, claiming they'd run a targeted hate campaign against him because he'd spoken out on behalf of his constituent "B", who was a trans child, and had consequently received hate tweets. His main example of this was LGB Alliance tweeting about donations in his name, no examples of actual hate or abuse were offeredand nothing referencing "B". Mr. Nicolson had been posting material and promoting policy that was widely perceived to be anti-women and anti-homosexual for quite some time; he must have expected massive criticism. It was clear what was behind the LGB Alliance fundraising tweets, which were not abusive. A thread with the relevant clip from his programme embedded: twitter.com/joss_prior/status/1267172295992324098

(6) Nicolson sits on the Digital Culture, Media, and Sport Committee (DCMS) at Westminster and has used that platform to call repeatedly for social media to remove anonymity protections, ignoring expert opinion and public criticism that such action would result in an open season on women from violent Anti-Woman Activists systemically protected by institutions hiding behind the "trans umbrella" while failing to represent the interests of actual trans people:

In another from the same year he said: "B*h from my work is making me want to punch a wall."

In a third, from 2016, he branded Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona a "crack-whore". And a fourth, from 2012, said: "Gay Somalians. What c**ts."'

'Equalities Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville cited research from Dr Peter Dunne as evidence that women should not be concerned about male bodies in women-only spaces. Dr Dunne’s 2017 academic paper, cited in a Scottish Government consultation, compared male bodies to other “non-normative” people, including women (whom he labels “cisgender” women) who have had breast removal surgery: Continue reading Women Outraged After Academic Compares Breast Cancer Survivors to Male Bodies | Women Are Human. Evidencing the misogyny - Scotland
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 14/06/2020 21:44

Shit show of women’s rights: I’ve been separated 5 years and have legal aid to divorce - except I can’t, because there has to be an agreement in place for the children.

Of course he’s not going to agree - he’s an abusive wee prick and that’s why I’ve got legal aid.

Legally tethered - as if DV were not punishment enough.

Oh... and WA testimonies no longer to be given full weighting in court because they’re seen as biased because they don’t do enough for men.

They will eventually realise what they have done to women and girls. It may take some time, maybe years, but when the horrid realisation hits them, they will be ashamed. Can you imagine what it’s going to be like for them, looking at the increased suffering of women and girls, while knowing they had a hand in that? They will suffer because they have been complicit and I will not have one ounce of sympathy for them.

I don't know if I'd class this as 'misogyny' so much as 'terrifying', but here is MSP Andy Wightman (green party) apologising for ever associating with witches:

SpanielRadcliffe · 15/06/2020 05:36

Scrimpshaw: There was Gregor Murray, though I believe he has left the party, or been booted out?

He was suspended from the party (although not from his role as city councillor in Dundee) for three months, and did a massive public flounce saying the SNP were far right for reprimanding him for writing to his constituents calling them "cunts" and "TERFs". He was wittering on forever about joining the Scot Greens vs staying "independent" - not sure what he did in the end as it was all too tedious to follow.

This people's hero is still all over Twitter, Reddit, et cetera under the name of Gro giph er, should anyone like self-punishment. Wink

KatySun · 15/06/2020 06:15

Insane regarding shitshow of divorce
Seven years here, have even been to court, got an interim order and was referred back to mediation. The system is broken. Mediation is apparently fine even where there is abuse because the victim can refuse to go and then take the case to proof. But if you don’t have legal aid, that is not an option. Plus, in what world is a full proof hearing in the best interests of the child? That is before I start on the fact that there is still no proper training for bar reporters (that might have changed since I last looked - I gave up on the whole thing), they do not even need to have practiced family law.

I contacted the SG and asked for statistics on how many people were in this situation and they do not have them, apparently these data are kept at court level and it would be prohibitively expensive to find out.

It is shocking.

I did not know that about WA testimonies though, do you have a reference for that? (I believe you, just curious)

Quillink · 15/06/2020 07:27

I had no idea about Scottish divorce. That is medieval Shock
