Should they have let children down because the author of a book said something someone doesn't approve of? What point are they making in this article.

Well ... that’s guess it’s good that they are carrying on with it rather than pulling out on the basis that you shouldn’t read work by a hateful transphobe. And as far as I’m aware, neither have taken to twitter to berate her even though they’re doing fairly high-profile stuff relating to her. And the article, although alluding to her comments being problematic, give some of what she said in full and it’s stuff that’s pretty hard to argue with, so hopefully allowing a lot of people to make up their own minds rather than just hearing the same old ‘horrible transphobe’ comments.

That’s good? It’s good.

A pleasant change from the Metro's normal woman hating drivel. David Beckham is a sportsman and maybe David Tennant is an intelligent non misogynistic man? Small steps..

Thelnebriati · 12/06/2020 18:58

cremuel What is ''a transphobe''? can you give a definition of transphobia, and one example of JK being transphobic?

HermionesMom · 12/06/2020 18:59

I didn't take it as positive. Mentioning at all combined with her comments seemed to me to be their way of painting them with the "transphobia by association brush".

Cremuel wasn't calling JK a transphobe.

David Tennant was in at least one of the HP movies I think. As an older and well respected Scottish actor I wouldn't be surprised if he knows JK personally or at least they move in the same circles.

Perhaps this is their way of saying something without saying anything.

Maybe, it would be nice but they were probably lined up already in which case it would have been super crappy to pull out as it's not for her it's for children.

I think so, plus as men they are not going to be targetted so horrifically as women are for associating with anything JKR related at the moment. I met DT once, he was thoroughly lovely, and came across as thoughtful and intelligent.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/06/2020 19:32

I also think they continued with this as a passive way of showing support without really sticking their heads above the parapet. The Metro is trolling by posting about it, and clearly hoping for a fight. The DM did the same with a photo Crissy Teigan posted of her daughter watching a Potter film for the first time while her dad snoozed next to her.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/06/2020 19:36

I love DT, if he let down JK Rowling now I would be so disappointed.

aliasundercover · 12/06/2020 19:40

David Tennant is intelligent, thoughtful, and rational. Beckham was a supporter of gay rights at a time when it wasn’t fashionable.
I don’t reckon either of them could possibly believe TWAW

@Thelnebriati - sorry, maybe I wasn’t being at all clear - I’d just had a large gin! I don’t think JKR is a transphobe at all. I was trying to convey that ‘she is a hateful transphobe’ is about as much explanation as a lot of media outlets are giving to the situation, and essentially what a lot of celebs are tweeting. Writing an article that doesn’t seem to be saying that, involve two celebs who also (as far as I know) haven’t said that, though not exactly all we could hope for, is still something.
Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 22:44

I'm so sorry, I misunderstood your post Blush

TehBewilderness · 13/06/2020 22:51

As far as I have been able to ascertain ever since transitioning advocacy organization declared women's right anti-trans all Feminists and gender critical or questioning persons are transphobic until proven otherwise by means of cash transfers to transgender persons and organizations.
A man who identifies as a woman explained on tumbler some years ago that support means money so claiming you support transgenderism is meaningless without cash.
