She chastises JKR's stance but does the 'she's a nice person overall!' and then 'Twitter is not a good place for nuanced debate (including this very true observation: "I also think we should all be in therapy, not on Twitter tearing lumps out of one another.")

The level of abuse she's getting for doing anything other than declaring JKR cancelled is pretty telling.

On a really petty note, there's one response condemning JKR because she 'insights hatred'. Yes. She does indeed insight.

She thinks 'cis' women aren't the most vulnerable in this situation.

Why do these people think adult males are somehow more vulnerable than women?

Interesting that words are "literal violence" but abuse, rape and death threats to women don't count.

I reckon every single time a woman receives misogynistic verbal abuse on Twitter, they should go to the police. And if necessary, wimper and cry because they feel unsafe.

Because when we take it on the chin, it is apparently totally fine.

I do feel sorry for Evanna here. She's trying to be kind and reconcile the good person she knows JKR to be with the stories she's been told about the vulnerability of transwomen and how JKR's words have hurt them. She probably hasn't thought too much about the issues beyond that. Now that her "let's all get along" stance is getting such vicious pushback, I wonder if it will make her think again.

Evanna was the one one I rated at all as an actor out of the main kids in the movies. It's telling she's trying to be balanced here and look at the shit they're giving her for it. I don't agree with her stance but I appreciate that she isn't trying to throw JK under the bus in the way the other have done. It's a far more nuanced piece than anything the others have managed.

Like the others, she doesn't appear to have given the matter much thought.

Like most people she hasn't fully absorbed the fact that women have suffered oppression despite being a majority.

She doesn't imagine what it is like to be a woman without choices - the woman who can't chose the 'nicer' toilets where you feel less vulnerable, the woman who can't ask other people to respect her identity (gender or otherwise), women in prison, women in hospital.

She fails to understand that the concept of Self ID allows all men to use sex segregated space, as demonstrated by M&S when they apologised to two men who had been asked to leave the bra fitting changing room.

I think it's interesting for young women. JKR is a role model for young women, she's got enough power and status to speak her mind and she's got that by dint of her own efforts. But now she's getting a backlash, ostensibly because of her "transphobic" views but I don't think it's a coincidence shes a powerful older woman. It's misogyny.

I just read her Wikipedia page. She suffered from anorexia as a teenager and credits JKR with helping her recover.

Would love her to meet some detransitioners and discuss their similar experiences of body hatred.

I hope she reads the comments and questions why it's never enough, why showing empathy to a person who has been kind to you, who has a proven track record of supporting social equality and from the sounds of it helped you battle inner demons is not allowed.

That you must burn them at the pyre and fully denounce them to be accepted.

Then put that into the prism of women rights. Only undying captilation is acceptable, there is no conversation or middle ground - pronouns and womens platitudes aren't enough.

Please don't recant Evanna you don't owe them everything.

I do find myself thinking, 'Does anyone really care what any of the kids from the HP films have to say?'

In a way it's a bait and switch. As though there's a seesaw of 'rights' and if the TRAs can bully or coerce enough people on to their side, it will outweigh JK's opinion ... and reality. But actually what they're doing is amplifying and spreading JK's position.
Evanna attempted nuance and I do appreciate that she acknowledged how toxic the debate is. Daniel, Emma and Eddie all pretended they couldn't see the death threats and misogynistic abuse being hurled at JK. But they must have seen it. And they deliberately legitimised the people making those threats.

Of all the little wokelets criticising JKR, she's the one I thought could have just stayed silent. She had a huge amount of care and attention from JKR, and this is how it's repaid.

I guess all the Harry Potter actors, having been rich and famous since their early teens, and mostly coming from very comfortable backgrounds before that, have zero concept of what it is to be vulnerable (unlike JK herself).

Hence Evanna and Emma Watson can genuinely imagine that women are a privileged group - because they, and everyone they know who is female, is indeed rich and privileged. And that of course includes JK herself, who they know as a billionaire (they never knew her when she was poor and struggling).

Meanwhile, transwomen are a category they read about in articles about black transwomen dying whilst working as prostitutes in Brazil. The fact that in reality, transwomen aren't actually all black Brazilian prostitutes and many are highly paid white male tech workers is not something that Evanna and Emma will understand, because in reality they never go near either category. Rich society women and celebrities, yes, they mix with them daily. Working class or ordinary women (of any colour), no.

They also won't understand what it's like to feel physically threatened because they themselves can afford bodyguards.

It's all a game to them. They are still children - like Harry Potter characters who never grew up.
