If you have all the books or aren't a fan of HP (not everybody is!) or crime fiction (ditto), JKR also has links to some charities. I don't want to post their names on here because that may break some rules, but her website lists them.

OP, just to add that I was actually feeling pretty hopeless but now I feel like I have made a gesture, however small, to a charity that does pretty amazing work in JK's name. I will be able to sleep a little easier tonight.

Our HP books fall apart with excessive reading so will quite happily do both.
