Asda's new pronoun badges for staff

My BIL who works at our local store has just received this information, he thinks Asda's gone mad. Asda are also funding Diversity Role Models with £100,000 over the next year. Looks as though they're jumping in with both feet.

Asda's new pronoun badges for staff

Well I guess it indicated quite clearly the staff flop avoid. You might get their pronoun wrong or something.

Aren’t they there to stack shelves, work on the tills, sell the cigarettes, work as security guards etc? I’d hope they had better things to do that ‘chat pronouns’ with customers.

So, what happens to customers who 'misgender' their employees if they are clearly wearing their badges? Are they banned? Or?.....

Worse: they're cancelled.

Simple question. When did being polite to retail workers shift from using please and thank you to asking about their personal identity feelings?

I too think colleagues will just swap badges to mess about 😃
When I worked in a supermarket, as a female I regularly swapped name badges with my male colleague, or borrowed his spare when I couldn’t find my own.
The amount of customers who asked me if I was “ on a journey “...
😆😆😆

What about the pronouns of the produce?

In France, Pot Noodle is feminine but Peanut Butter is masculine.

Peanut Butter is masculine

ARE YOU ASSUMING ITS GENDER? Beurre-phobe Shock

I'm pretty sure my BIL won't choose to wear one and just couldn't believe that Asda are offering them to staff members.

Fuck offffff. That’s ridiculous, why the fuck does it bloody matter?!

@Samtsirch we used to do the same thing in Safeway (RIP) about a million years ago. I was Jonathan a few times and no one even asked!

I hope this isn’t derail-y, as it’s not quite the same theme, but does anyone know why the term ‘folks’ or even ‘folx’ instead of ‘people’ is used when discussing gender, sex, identity etc? I’ve seen it on Twitter a few times and it just made me wonder.

How things have moved on!

I used to work at Safeway, a million years ago, and one great idea meant that we had to wear badges saying 'Let me lighten your load'. Briefly.

Peanut Butter is masculine assigned male at birth
Fixed that for you

Ffs 🙄 I wonder how many supermarkets will jump on this bandwagon as clothing stores have.

Anyone who tells me how to talk about them, especially anyone who invites me to ask them how they want me to talk about them, is trying to control me and to compel my speech.

The hell with that. They can take a long walk on a short pier.

This is so bloody typical. As people have already pointed out, Asda staff are not allowed to join a union, but they get badges about their gender identity?

Bosses LOVE transgenderism, they absolutely love it. It gives them an instant pink-and-blue-wash to cover up their other objectionable practices, and a weapon of discipline against their staff. I predict trumped up "transphobia" will be cited more and more often when managers want rid of inconvenient workers.

They won’t like it so much when they start being pressed for mixed sex loos and changing facilities, or when the law suits roll in because a manager called someone by the wrong pronoun.

Most people couldn't tell a pronoun from a pot noodle anyway...

I think you do sometimes use a supermarket workers pronoun, but when you are referring to them with someone else - so not sure how this would help unless you paid particular attention to what the badge said. But it’s someone’s own choice to wear them, and I’m happy for them to have that choice.

@Binterested

It’s customerphobic to try to drag me into this crap.

If I forgot my name badge I would borrow Howard's who was on opposite shift to me. My supervisor asked why I was Howard and I fessed up to forgetting my own badge. He said the badge should have my name on it. I said, no, the regs say that I should wear a name badge, doesn't say it has to be mine. He looked it up and I was right. (I'm female btw)

Some people have the pronoun thing on emails. I pay no attention.

Can I have a badge that says my pronouns are “your majesty” and “her royal highness”?

I want to feel all superior and get offended when people don’t curtesy to me!
