Am hoping this means the NHS is waking up ...

twitter.com/bayswatersg/status/1268227291970224131?s=21

Text from tweets:

“ The NHS website has updated its info on gender dysphoria & puberty blockers:

Old version: "The effects of treatment with GnRH analogues are considered to be fully reversible so treatment can usually be stopped at any time after a discussion between you, your child & your MDT” >>

New version: "Little is known about the long-term side effects of hormone or puberty blockers in children with gender dysphoria.

Although the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) advises this is a physically reversible treatment if stopped, it is not known what the… >>

...psychological effects may be.
It's also not known whether hormone blockers affect the development of the teenage brain or children's bones.”

More alarming than the Gendered Intelligence Tweet is this one from the National Advisor for LGBT Health which is retweeting and supporting a tweet calling the updates to the webpages “scaremongering and fake news”. Honestly I just despair sometimes.

Down in the responses to that tweet I found this very instructive discussion:

It couldn't be clearer that women's comfort and dignity must take second place to validation of transwomen.

I'm a bit concerned about the male transsexual who thinks he has a woman's body being a doctor.

Surely he understands from his medical training that he hasn't actually changed sex.

I had a quick look at their timeline and I think this tweeter might actually be a woman. One of those intersectional non-binary types in a queer lesbian relationship with a man.

I don't know if I should laugh or groan.

Remember far back in the mists of time (possibly 2018) when Paris Lees was interviewed by Nick Robinson and somewhere in the middle of a long paragraph delivered without drawing breath Paris said -

"-because it's a paediatric issue now..."

I will take the kindest view and say that it is people who had appalling childhoods who say this, who are reaching out to their own inner child and trying to care for it. But the chill that went down my spine when Paris said that. Because life doesn't work like that. Medicalising adolescents doesn't fix what adult activists suffered.

“Medicalising adolescents doesn’t fix what adult activists suffered”

That’s a great way of putting it, Permanent . Can I steal and use a slightly elaborated version? Grin

It puts me in mind of Juno Dawson's recent appearance on Radio 4 to plug Dawson's book. Dawson spoke about how envious Dawson was of teenagers today and the transition options open to them that weren't available to Dawson.

nauticant · 05/06/2020 19:06

It came across badly to me, there was a sense of "by proxy" about it.

The very sad fact is though that had those treatments been available some of these people wouldnt be where they are.

Anything could have happened with the added burden of being left behind your peers as they all develope normally, or the drop in IQ and mental.maturity etc

Some would never have had their children or met their wives/husbands even if it did t work out long term they still are surely a big part if their life and played their part in how things have gone?

Some would certainly not have been able to have the surgery that they had because that would have been a physical impossibility

On that thread..

And, as I say, on the few instances where a patient did turn down a man, they were then fine with me being the alternative

Jesus christ. So a woman wanted a woman, got a man so wanted to switch. Then was sent another man instead?!

Fuck me. The lack of care about womens rights/needs is astonishing.

One of those intersectional non-binary types in a queer lesbian relationship with a man.

Again, for fucks sake.

So a woman asked for a woman, got a woman (albeit one who thinks not being a walking stereotype is something special) and didn't complain. And this proves women are fine with men when they request a woman? My head hurts

A woman being happy with a 'non-binary' woman treating her, is NOT the same as a male bloody person. That the woman was happy to be examined by a woman, means sweet fuck all in this situation.
