What's the score with Audible?

Someone in a book group I belong to told me that Audible have actually pulled their Mumsnet advertising. Is that definitely true? I was wondering if anyone has heard this confirmed by Mumsnet or Audible?

I would be really sorry to have to cancel my subscription!

There's a long discussion on this already -- do a search!

When I do a search for the original thread wrt Audible, Mumsnet tells me the thread is no longer available??

ItsLateHumpty · 03/06/2020 03:28

Do you mean this thread?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3911341-audible?

It's all over Twitter that Audible have buckled under the TRA pressure to withdraw their advertising from MN. I can't see anything on this board about it? I joined Audible years and years ago because of an advert and a recommendation from other MN users.

I am incredibly unimpressed if this is the case.

Who the hell knows - they aren’t telling. I contacted them when this kicked off and have been given no info at all from them. I might try again today.

Saturday 16th. Last time I heard was the 21st when they said they were looking into it and would get back to me.

I woke up today and thought to myself - all those TRA types attacking Mumsnet advertisers... it's so childish! But I'm nervous about the security implications of signing up for Mumsnet premium...

I'd donate anonymously if I could. But in the meantime, why don't I make a concerted effort to click on the ads and where I can, buy something from them? Win-win, right?

I tried, first as I got: buy a new car and shared yacht ownership. If only.

Maybe donate to a relevant charity instead? That’s what I do when I get pissed off with their antics.

"Since your concern was already escalated and just wait until someone will contacted you."

Feh. Still not 100% certain I am 'chatting' to a human

I suspect they answered the initial lobby demand with the same naiive ignorance and well intentioned niceness most of us began with, then belatedly realised they'd just announced an alliance with male supremacism and all the implications, and discovered that there was now no way out of it.

I suspect they feel the least damaging way forward is just to say nothing and hope it goes away.

Audible is owned by Amazon so that's reason enough not to subscribe for me. Trying to be Amazon-free.

I have been reading their website about how they are such wonderful folk such people people who listen to people. It reads like something out of 30 Rock, you couldn't make it up.

Lordfrontpaw · 03/06/2020 16:45

I see they are selling Harry Potter. I almost wish the flying monkeys spot that...
