GMB is back on site

Can someone point me in the direction of where GMB are back? The latest one I can find is closed to new comments and has Justine's message about their Q&A being postponed.

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 12:04

I saw when I was on earlier. I even clicked on it and wen5 through to it

Weird

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 12:04

It was at top. But then I never read it tbf

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 12:05

But what Michelle says as well 💪

Needmoresleep · 28/05/2020 12:26

I can't find any pinned thread on active.

It think it is a very good idea for a Union to support a site frequented by women, many of whom are worried about their employment.

I don't understand why their views on gender might preclude this. Women on this site will have a range of private views. However GMB were proposing employment advice and support.

Even if they are right in their views, and even if private views on gender are relevant to employment, it is a case of punishing the many for the few.

littlebrowndog - "Gmb is back on site. Pinned at top"

I can't see it anywhere.

Meanwhile . . . the GMB is about to discover what happens when an organisation gives a nanometre, let alone an inch . . .

The GMB witch-hunt begins!

"Who made the decision to engage with Mumsnet? An individual or a committee?
What was the rationale?
Was it minuted?
Who decided to deny the right of reply?
What was the rationale?"

There are plenty more like that on Twitter.

ps. Mumsnet answered detailed questions about data security and Premium membership in this thread I started on Site Stuff:

Weird. Was there this morning. Anyway 🤷‍♀️

FreeKitties · 28/05/2020 13:20

I’m honestly sat here trying to work out how we could start a women’s only union (that is a union whose only role is to represent adult human females in the workplace), and I can’t believe it’s taken me until the age of 39 to realise we need one.

FreeKitties · 28/05/2020 13:23

And as much I insisted I was dead set against it this may be the final straw that pushed me into paying for mumsnet premium!

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/05/2020 14:21

Good luck GMB, your new best friends are a bit... exhausting... to put it mildly. Sackcloth and ashes will be required, do you have your own shame bell?

This is what happens when you dabble with batshit.

BringbackLang · 28/05/2020 14:30

And don't forget the hair shirt either!

Lordfrontpaw · 28/05/2020 14:33

And the list of demands (and threats). Imagine dealing with a roomful of Violet Elizabeths.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 28/05/2020 14:55

I’m not in GMB but I trust my union less & less.

BatShite · 28/05/2020 15:00

I’m not in GMB but I trust my union less & less.

Its certainly an eye opener, how quickly a union rolled over and gave in..because a few bloke sstarted threatening them on twitter. Just bizarre and doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. Surely unions and such would be the ones to stand up against these fucking bullies. But it seems male supremacy is..just fine.

Lordfrontpaw · 28/05/2020 15:07

If the unions can't stand up this lot of twitterati, them then why in all that is holy would anyone want them to go into a tough negotiation situation on their behalf?

It's like sending Little Orphan Annie into a gunfight.

Melroses · 28/05/2020 23:19

I sometimes wonder, with this rush to purity, that organisations are losing sight of their purpose.

It seems to happen to so many.

ItsLateHumpty · 01/06/2020 09:29

Just a reminder that we’re expecting an answer to this one today.

Quick update. We've heard back from the General Secretary of the GMB saying that they will review their decision to suspend activity on Monday, June 1 and that my mail has been circulated everyone who's involved in the decision. If they decide not to continue with the Q&A we will do our damnedest to find alternative experts to answer the queries posted on the thread.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/06/2020 09:39

Don’t hold your breath. But I hope they have been watching the twitter activity over the weekend with regards to JK Rowling and consider the people they are dealing with. Wasn’t the ‘good doctor’ involved in this too?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/06/2020 09:41

God, yes, Melroses. There's all this pushing to get people unionised to protect and support workers. Mothers are currently bearing a huge burden of the impacts of the pandemic. This is a site used by thousands of parents for a vast range of reasons.
But stuff that, eh? Half a dozen angry comments on Twitter and they're ready to chuck everyone in the bin. Pathetic.

Needmoresleep · 01/06/2020 09:52

Thank you Justine.

My accountant is deeply upset about the impact CV is having on many of his clients who have spent years/decades building up small businesses, and face losing everything. He has been very busy identifying the help that is available. Equally his client's employees must be terrified about what the future might hold. This is not some game of virtue signalling that happens when politicos gather. This is real. And workers need to be represented by Unions who understand this. GMB should look at the debt threads on the money boards for a window onto the real world, rather than just focus on FWR.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 01/06/2020 10:53

I wonder if the GMB are even aware of the general perception of unions as very strongly male-only, lad's clubs? This debacle has only underscored that 'bros before hos' attitude, as far as I can see.

boatyardblues · 01/06/2020 10:57

Yep. Happy to take women’s subs to feather their nests, but not to advocate for and support the rights of their female members. Same old shit.

Needmoresleep · 01/06/2020 11:19

Though the ‘men’ have changed from the days of Harold Wilson’s beer and sandwiches meetings with the unions.

Less northern industrial, though still a few. More woke bros and their female allies, with a slightly different, Momentum influenced, agenda. But still not Listening to women.
