Mum fuming as daughter, 11, set homework asking her to 'define hardcore pornography' (yes thats 11 years olf not even year 11)

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mum-fuming-daughter-11-set-22049850

A teacher set this homework. On what planet did a professional working with children think this was ok?

For what possible reason would that be necessary for 11 year olds?

Soubriquet · 19/05/2020 16:42

Wtf?!!

Why is that necessary?

What part of school learning is that?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/05/2020 16:42

Having said that, maybe this is a plus side of lockdown and kids learning from home, parents are more likely to see the inappropriate material their kids are being exposed to at school.

Datun · 19/05/2020 16:44

Isn't exposing children to pornography a crime? How, exactly, do they expect this child to have learnt what it is?

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 16:46

I saw stonewall touting an education pack on social media - it was seriously as if Viz had written it for them.

(excuse my mangled OP - my laptop crashed and I was especially pissed off when I saw this story on twiter)

She was only in primary school last year living her best life, now she is being asked to search for hardcore pornography.

Jeez.

Datun · 19/05/2020 16:48

Give her another six years, and she'll be aspiring to have regular sex with married men from out of town.

Goosefoot · 19/05/2020 16:50

If I were making a guess, it might be part of an effort to tell kids about porn before they are likely to come across it. Age 11 is when a lot of kids start coming across it, through friends if not themselves, and I know I've talked to my kids that age about it some.

I'm not sure the definition of hard core porn would be important/useful though. It strikes me as something someone thought would make a good test question.

Goosefoot · 19/05/2020 16:51

Wait, were they supposed to look at porn?

Datun · 19/05/2020 16:52

If an 11-year-old is asked to define extreme porn, the first thing they're going to do is google it!

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 16:55

The first thing they will do is google it - who wouldn't?

When I was 11 - actually I was a year ahead, and an immature 10-year-old too, this would have really upset and scared me...

Shock

Wtf

Someone check those teachers arrives ffs

Datun · 19/05/2020 16:56

They are saying it is government directed work. I sincerely hope the author is exposed. And I can't help wondering if it is someone we have already encountered.

SarahTancredi · 19/05/2020 16:57

Hard drives

Stupid phone

truthisarevolutionaryact · 19/05/2020 16:58

Ahem:
Teachers at Archbishop Sentamu Academy in east Hull asked the 11 to 14-year-olds to "define" pornography, soft pornography, hardcore pornography and transsexual pornography, as well as female genital mutilation, wet dreams, trafficking, male circumcision, breast ironing and more Angry

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2020 16:58

Datun Grin

Yes, good point.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/05/2020 16:59

That's really odd - is it possible they are notes for teachers rather than pupils that got sent out accidentally? (Grasping at straws)

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 17:01

I will ask some relatives who are teachers and see what they say (they also have kids that age). I can't see it being repeatable...

As usual the questions are, who wrote this, who taught them that it was appropriate, and who approved it. Given the comment about covering the Equality Act it will have been linked to the usual suspects in some way.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2020 17:02

It doesn't sound like it given the Academy's reply, that the answers were to be found in the teaching materials provided, so no need for 11 year olds to google these terms.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 17:04

A quick look at the website and it's not even one of those schools with its own little Rainbow Youth Army.

Yes, absolutely

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/05/2020 17:05

We know various public sector organisations in Humberside are captured.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/05/2020 17:06

So the answer is the pack - that's wonderful.

Now hands up who is ok with their 10/11 years old being taught about prostitution, porn (extreme and otherwise...). I assume the answers are accurate and not 'when a lady and a man love each other very much...sometimes they like to bash each other with rubber hoses...)
