You can draw your own conclusions. Well done to the women who keep pursuing answers.

"A lot of thought went into the Open Letter, and a long list of signatories took the risk of professional losses by signing under their own names. We were motivated by concern that writers, and those working in the creative industries, cannot express criticism of gender orthodoxy without professional and social penalty."

Thanks for this. A v good statement by wild woman writing club. Sturgeon's letter doesn't say much, but it is good to see she acknowledges the misogyny in the debate as well as transphobia, so I took her final statement to be about keeping the conversation civil directed at the pro gender campaigners as well as the gender critical ones, rather than the usual 'why can't you just be kind and let them change the law to whatever they want' directed at the anti self id campaign that we often see. I may be being charitable but I thought it was better than I feared. (low bar!)

I still want the ‘proud feminist’ Nicola Sturgeon to state categorically that, in a fair and progressive democracy, adult males will not have right of access to undress in female communal changing rooms alongside my undressed school age daughters - and when I complain - very loudly - I won’t be done for hate speech.

She won’t answer. We all (women) have to be kind.

It’s a no from me.

Should add - excellent letter by the writing club. Well done.

So basically she is saying "transwomen are men" is 'transphobic'.

What does the last bit of Sturgeon's letter have to do wtih the price of cheese?

She notes feminism, notes freedom of speech - and then swerves off course and goes down the 'ooh, now haven't people been nasty, let's all play nice' instead of actually addressing either of the points. It's a non-conclusion. It's saying 'yes, this is a problem, we know this is a problem, and oh, hey, come on now, let's everyone just get along'. In a tone of patronising admonishment. Which she is practised at.

Self id hasn't "failed" sadly, its just kicked down the road where we'll be ready and waiting. Only reason given for delay is coronavirus.

Letter itself - usual government waffle and 'be kind ladies'.
