Women being moaned at for missing the hairdresser/beauty treatments.

Been thinking of starting this thread for a while . Ive seen women being criticised and comments like "its a pandemic Give your head a wobble" when they dare to mention they would like or need a haircut/ colour/wax.
In some cases by men. The same men who would moan about women neglecting themselves and letting themselves go during non pandemic times. Now expect women to change like a flick of a switch!

But expecting women to change the mindset after decades and decades of being expected to look a certain way and meet a certain standard is not so easy.

Part of the hair issue IMO is just that if you are used to getting it cut regularly, it seems difficult to manage. Maybe more if you usually wear your hair short. Mt daughter has decided to let hers grow out a bit as when she's tried before, it gets to a point where it looks like she's had a shock, and she gives up. It's now hetting past that point which is great, but she still finds it annoying that it flops in her face and yet she can't easily tie it back.

@Antibles Youve articulated it much better than i did.

Im missing having my roots done and my cut And my chin wax.

Posted this on another thread.

I bought snap hair clips, headbands and tortoiseshell bulldog hair clips yesterday for pinning my fringe off my face and out of my eyes. I already had/have bobby pins but they dont hold it for long.

I have what feels like a painful trapped nerve in my neck. I thought i must have slept awkwardly and its been like it for over a week.

It was DH who said Its probably where youve been doing those little head jerks because your fringe is in your eyes. Last night i couldnt sleep properly because it was bloody painful.

I cant cut it. I just dont have the expertise. And i was also touching my face more which we are not supposed to do.

Re. colour I have my roots done every five weeks My last hair appointment was the 12th March. I have a lot of grey coming through now and have been using the Loreal Magic Retouch root concealer spray. But my hair is so thick there are layers and layers coming through now because its been two months and that spray wont cover it all. I keep missing bits. For the same reason i dont want to home dye it myself It would take boxes of the stuff and end up a disaster.

Last weekend i reached a really low point and wanted to shave my head.

Did a Google and found there were lots of women feeling the same way and they have gone through with it.
Some are saying its a form of taking back control.

Much more of this and there will be less women who need the hairdresser

Then there is the fucking chin hair. That was last done on the 10th March.

Ive missed one hair appointment and two chin waxes. I tried facial hair removal cream 3 years ago. Thought id save a bit of money on wax appointments Followed all the instructions and still got a chemical burn.
I would not do this again. The last thing the NHS needs right now is me rocking up with a burn thats become infected.

Some things are just best left to the professionals, hair colouring and removal being just two of them. See also dentistry. I used to do my own hair (colour and cut) and it was okay but I have to say that my hairdresser does a much better job. I have less of a problem doing nails and so on. I don't really wear make-up unless I have a night out, job interview or important professional engagement at which third parties may be present but even then I sometimes don't bother. I must have saved lots of time over the years as even the most basic make-up takes me about ten or fifteen minutes and lots of people manage to achieve a much nicer "look" so imagine they are either artistically talented or spend a lot of time.

It might be we'll see fewer women colouring in the near future - I think it's becoming a little more common for women to let their grey show anyway and not getting to the hairdresser might be a push for some.

Mine was 21st March. The L'Oréal stuff works quite well. I go every 5 weeks to get my colour done and that could be stretched to every 6 weeks.

I'm not that bothered about grey coming through as so many people will be in the same boat but when lockdown ends I will not be embracing gray hair.

Have you tried one of these? Amazon has cheaper versions.

I had started toning down my blonde highlights as I'd gone too light and it wasn't looking like highlights but full head type thing.

I'm now thinking of dying my light brown hair at home and when I can, start again with highlights. The money spent at the hairdressers though, I'd rather not sign back up to that every 6 weeks in the new post C19 economy.

I think mine cost about £1.50 from Amazon, I love it. Something quite soothing about it which is weird as sometimes it can sting, I'm always amazed at how much hair is stuck in it when you've finished.

Thanks for the tips Dido. My fringe seems to be parting now where its been pinned. If it grows to a certain length by the time all this is done i may have it grow in with the rest of my hair and not have it cut back in.

Helena I'm as vain as you can hope to find but I'm really not bothered about grey growing in at the moment. It'll be a different story when/if we're back to normal.

Just remember no matter how bad you think your hair is someone else will think theirs is worse (and given you've said your hair is very thick I bet it's a lot nicer looking than many people's)

Ta Dido Smile You have a good point Having thick layers means some of the grey is covered.

Well they haven't and are very unlikely to so I'm not sure what your point is.

It's called a hypothetical but never mind. Helena gets it.
