So for the past year I have been slowly passing bits of information, about women's rights, trans issues, 'men' in women's prisons, 'men' wishing to use woman's spaces etc

He will reply "Is that the mumsnet lot' but how do you know it's true and not just hearsay....

So please help me by posting links to sites he can visit with facts.

He also replies to my transmen are trying to do this or that is, but it's coming from MN, I haven't actually seen it from transmen.

I hope I'm making sense?!!

His eyes are opening, how can I encourage it more, when I have limited information myself

I don't think this is an issue just of men. In general, people will give more credence to what they see themselves than what they hear reported from others. I talk about this sometimes with my sister, who has been involved to some extent interfacing between our local health service and trans groups. What she's experienced there doesn't really seem similar, for example they've been very ready to understand why medical services need to record biological sex, so she tends to see groups or people against that as extremists or weirdos.

I think what can be most useful with such people is seeing that representative groups are making these demands and finding some traction, or things like court cases where the logic is followed to its conclusion.

I don't think most people realise how transphobic their views are to the extreme genderists.

I know men who say they think that TWAW... but that obviously males and females should compete separately, and of course males shouldn't be in female prisons, and self-ID is clearly a bad idea... They believe all of this, and because they're not engaged in it online like we are and like the extreme genderists, they are totally unaware that they are thought-criminals and just think they're wonderful (often, left-wing) blokes.

Oh, and of course, they all believe that all transwomen have had their penises removed. That's the crux of it. "If they've gone all the way".

NonnyMouse1337 · 14/04/2020 11:26

It's easy to proudly proclaim to be a TRA / trans ally in the streets, but be a transphobe in the sheets. How many of these 'progressive' men would actually have sex with a transwoman (or a transman if they are gay)? Would they accept that a penis is a female sexual organ (and vice versa) when they actually had to handle one? Doubt it. Progressive, my arse. 😂

Usually people look for facts before forming an opinion.

You appear to be looking for facts to support your prejudice.

MissHoskins · 14/04/2020 12:09

Human beings cannot change sex, there's a FACT for you not2daysanta
It's quite a useful fact to start a discussion, or even form an opinion

Changename5000 · 14/04/2020 12:09

He doesn't believe TWAW
He is becoming interested, because I am becoming interested and he asked for facts from both sides.

This is what I was trying to find for him.

"they are totally unaware that they are thought-criminals and just think they're wonderful (often, left-wing) blokes."

The acid test, would be to challenge a heterosexual guy who thinks TWAW, and ask them if they would be quite happy to go out with a TW on a serious basis, with all that entails.

andyoldlabour · 14/04/2020 12:23

"You appear to be looking for facts to support your prejudice."

Science/biology is not prejudice, it is fact.

Why doesnt he look for evidence to refute what you're sharing with him?
An area of focus is often helpful.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 14/04/2020 12:53

For DH it was the trans pledge, he got the implications of self ID straight away. Having the misfortune of seeing the worst of human nature from a young age he knows exactly the type of man who would take advantage and how. He also didn't fall for the Most Marginalized / Vulnerable™ line.

He probably could, but he is decorating and I said I would ask MN for some pointers 🤷‍♀️
