Dominic Raab.... your thoughts

I’ve read that he described feminists as "obnoxious bigots" in an online article also claiming men were getting "a raw deal". Also that
Theresa May accused him of fuelling "gender warfare".
I don’t know anything about him and would be interested in your thoughts & opinions please.

He’s obnoxious and he looks like he’s shitting himself.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/04/2020 08:41

he's a ignorant twat. its almost impressive how ignorant he is.

DuchessDumbarton · 07/04/2020 09:35

You need to only see his reaction when questioned by the esteemable Lady Silvia Herman(an MP, Law Lecturer and generally decent human being).

She questioned whether he had ever read the Good Friday/Belfast agreement (all 35 pages of it).

He reacted as would a 16year old, when taken to task by Teacher, when they haven't completed their homework.

Stroppy. Rude.

Where are the adults?

PearPickingPorky · 07/04/2020 09:37

Thick as shit, and a total sociopath.

I think we're doomed.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 10:19

Thick as shit, and a total sociopath

What is your evidence for this? He is a grammar school boy who went to Oxford then Cambridge so I think that 'thick as shit' might be pushing it somewhat?

Depends whether we’re discussing ability to pass exams, or understanding of the way human emotions work and how to empathise with others’ experiences.

bellinisurge · 07/04/2020 10:33

I've dealt with him in real life. Very average intellect and a bit lazy.

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 10:35

Well I thought that the 'sociopath' comment covered the above?

DuchessDumbarton · 07/04/2020 10:38

Evidence:

As Brexit secretary, he didn't read (all 35 pages!) of the Good Friday agreement....his words? it isn't a "cracking novel".

As Brexit secretary he refers to a leader of a political party by their wrong name. Now, personally, I cannot imagine turning up to a meeting with, for instance, Dominic Raab. And then, repeatedly referring to him as Dominic Rabbit.

In his own words:
“I hadn’t quite understood the full extent of this, but if you look at the UK and if you look at how we trade in goods, we are particularly reliant on the Dover-Calais crossing.”
Dover carries around 20% UK trade.
I'm not sure how he thought his French cheeses arrived in his supermarket.

In his own words: “From the cradle to the grave, men are getting a raw deal. Feminists are now amongst the most obnoxious bigots.”

Need any more?

"Dominic Raab still thinks feminists are bigots

He was on Marr this morning, just catching up on it now.

Remember when he wrote “feminists are now amongst the most obnoxious bigots” (amongst other gems) in this article in 2011
Dominic Raab, We must end feminist bigotry
www.politicshome.com/thehouse/article/we-must-end-feminist-bigotry

Marr just asked him if he still stands by that statement - he just waffled about supporting equality/Maria Miller. He’s asking to be our Prime Minister, and didn’t think that might be a good opportunity to say “hmm, I did generalise a bit there didn’t I, perhaps that was slightly offensive” at least.

Not that I have any say in who the Tories choose anyway, but way to start turning off 52% of the electorate before you’re even in No10, Dom."

TinselAngel · 07/04/2020 11:07

He looks completely out of his depth to me. I never thought I'd be hoping for Gove to take over.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 07/04/2020 11:07

I'm dismayed he's in charge with attitudes like these. He comes across as stupid and dismissive. Not a detail man that's for sure.

Kit19 · 07/04/2020 11:08

he's so far out of his depth its almost funny! he was crapping himself last night

koshkatt · 07/04/2020 11:24

Perhaps last night he had just been told how ill Boris actually was?

And as for hating feminists - it's inexcusable from all of the male politicians who hate us, of course it is.

TheStarryNight · 07/04/2020 11:37

Agree Tinsel. Gove at least bothers to read the material.

R0wantrees · 07/04/2020 11:44

Gove has announced he is now self-isolating (as per guidelines) as a close family member starting showing 'mild symptoms' on Sunday.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 07/04/2020 11:48

H''m. He's distancing himself, is he?

Danceswithwarthogs · 07/04/2020 11:50

I just read his article... I don’t understand what that has got to do with feminism? Quite a naive viewpoint and I suspect only formed from his own experience/world view. Feminism doesn’t exist to penalise men, all these men working long hours, dying at a younger age, unable to take time off to take care of the children... are potentially all victims of the patriarchy and it’s emphasis on masculinity, material success and presenteeism.

He places no value on the unpaid extra work women do and believes that only women should be criticised in the workplace for being middle class, that to encourage social mobility, the minority middle class women must step aside while the middle class men can carry on as normal?

Disassembling the inequalities and bringing balance in to work places, that it’s acceptable for men to be equally responsible for caring for sick children or elderly parents without judgement and that women are not written off at work as soon as they have children, will benefit men and women. Feminism isn’t women trying to cherry pick from men and leave them doing the heavy lifting. He’s an idiot.

Kantastic · 07/04/2020 12:05

I don't know much about him but I have noticed that Marina Hyde is particularly good at describing him.

white-collar guy who’s never done anything wrong in his life before this. You have to believe him, he was just trying to keep her quiet – OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THERE’S SO MUCH BLOOD – OK, keep calm, keep calm. Panic’s how they’re going to get you. There’s that bit of copse past the golf club …

the man with the slightly frightened child in his eyes.

a roid-fuelled salesman for Magnet kitchen (Esher branch), whose unbeaten monthly commission run will only come to a horrifying end if anyone checks the showroom freezers.

and I defy anyone to look at him and claim they don't know exactly what she means. The new stuff I've found out on this thread about his misogyny is not helping this impression.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 07/04/2020 13:03

H''m. He's distancing himself, is he?

Like John Major, who was in hospital having his wisdom teeth removed, when the knives were out for Maggie?

Speculation on the radio just now, that should a new leader be required, the 1922 committee would most likely appoint someone in the interim and then hold a leadership contest after the emergency situation. Gove would be a serious contender.

BlackForestCake · 07/04/2020 20:12

Gove?? Jeremy Corbyn will lead the Conservative Party before Gove will.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 07/04/2020 20:44

He's way out of his depth, he isn't very bright and he's too entitled to realise it. Also a sociopath.

Summerhillsquare · 07/04/2020 20:49

This is a man who resigned in protest at his own track record (was Brexit Sec). Thats said, I think we are in deep trouble whether Johnson recovers or not.

jakeyboy1 · 07/04/2020 22:39

He looked terrified last night and the press seemed to give him a hard time today which at times got annoying but I think they were trying to break him.

I am pretty sure he referred to Edgbaston as being in Scotland today so clearly his geography hasn't improved since the Dover incident.

I once saw him use the word pamphlet and that was the end for me, a long while ago.

SophocIestheFox · 08/04/2020 07:35

the man with the slightly frightened child in his eyes

As ever, Marina nails it 🤣

As Summerhill says, he resigned in protest at not having done his own fucking job properly. That’s the caliber of man we’re talking about here. He is utterly flailing, he couldn’t be more out of his depth if he was doggy paddling over the Marianas Trench.
