Idaho: Gov Little signs bill to bans trans girls and women from competing in women's sports

It seems like some success in Idaho yesterday with a bill signed to protect women’s sports. The bill ban transgirls and transwomen from competing in girls and women’s sports.

There was also a bill that means that people cannot change their sex on birth certificates.

Boys need to compete with other boys for the same reason heavyweights compete with heavyweights and not bantam weights.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/04/2020 08:58

Aren’t they trying to sue? (The trans group/supporters that is).

When will they actually take a long look and the lightbulb go on?

MrGHardy · 18/04/2020 09:19

Fuck yea

Winesalot · 18/04/2020 09:27

Yes, ACLU are suing according to the article. I take on board that Idaho might be a regressive state in other ways, however this debate needs to be loud and very public. And focused on science not emotions.

That’s good news! I have a question (sorry if my terminology is off, mean no offence by it) in these situations, where trans people compete with their birth sex, are the biological females who are taking testosterone also able to compete with females who don’t take testosterone? I just don’t see how that can be fair either?

BovaryX · 18/04/2020 09:39

It's interesting, isn't it? Idaho is a red state, it voted 59 percent for Trump/Pence in 2016 and is culturally far from the 'left coast' where Hillary dominated. It is a sad indictment of the way identity politics has colonised so much of the left wing on both sides of the Atlantic that it seems inevitable this is a Republican Governor. One has to be particularly obtuse or deliberately blinkered not to grasp the threat to women's sports if natal males are allowed to compete with all the advantage that implies. Good on Governor Brad Little. A sound decision. Let's hope others prone to band wagon jumping take note.

I saw the ACLA getting a lesson on twitter. The more you see it on black and white the more you think ‘this is just crazy - are they being blackmailed???’

ThinEndoftheWedge · 18/04/2020 10:24

Important point - and yes - it is not fair.

Some women’s sports have the double unfairness of transwomen competing as women with all the innate male advantages not removed by lower T levels and transmen not being allowed to compete with men and therefore competing with women whilst on T.

The only way I see though this for safety, equitability and fairness of competition without the negative effects on women and girls is an open category and a women's category. Currently banned performance enhancing substances should not be allowed in the women’s sport by the back door.

But with all the lunacy of this and the koolaid being drunk - I can now imagine this to be seen as ‘progressive’

Floisme · 18/04/2020 11:04

I find it fascinating how quick people on the left were to brand Trump and Brexit voters as stupid. And yet here they are......

Winesalot · 18/04/2020 18:01

The ACLU are being asked why they are not supporting the girls in twitter. And why they used real females (Blake Lively) on their meme? They are actually not getting a lot of support, rather people tweeting all the prominent transwomen athlete pictures and science.

They have picked their ideology and won’t be budged. It’s like some groups see opposition as confirming their beliefs - making them feel victimised and justified.

Winesalot · 18/04/2020 19:00

Well, when you have strangio as one of your prominent voices, I guess there is no room to discuss budging.

"Some women’s sports have the double unfairness of transwomen competing as women with all the innate male advantages not removed by lower T levels and transmen not being allowed to compete with men and therefore competing with women whilst on T."

This should not be a problem at all.

If you take PEDs for medical reasons, then you cannot compete, it is as simple as that. You can apply for the infamous TUEs, but you won't get it for testosterone treatment (and rightly not). The fact that being trans miraculously (at least at junior level) in the US counts as TUE (I am strongly assuming girls who do not claim trans status but take testosterone would be sanctioned/banned) is beyond belief.

TehBewilderness · 18/04/2020 20:54

The ACLU advocates for the rape torture and abuse of women in porn as free speech, all evidence to the contrary, so it comes as no surprise that they advocate driving women and girls out of the public sphere.
They are not the only former US civil rights organization that has been taken over by misogynists.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/04/2020 20:55

Seems to be the way doesn’t it?

MrGHardy · 19/04/2020 10:02

They do what???

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 19/04/2020 19:03

I expect, MrHardy, that they advocate for porn - male freedoms to porn. Porn is abusive for females, more so now than ever before.

We need a blanket acknowledgement that male “rights”, “liberties” and “freedoms” with respect to sex directly impact the rights and freedoms of every other being, women and children most usually. How have we got to this point, where the fight for human rights and freedoms and civil liberties has become a fight for solely male rights? It’s as if feminism never happened.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 19/04/2020 19:43

Actually, from what I have read the bill allows transmen to compete with men. It simply acknowledges that the opposite cannot be fair and in cases of contact, safe. Analysts have pointed out that it is therefore not transphobic merely acknowledging biological differences.. concern has been expressed about transmen, however, as they are themselves the people at risk it has been deemed acceptable that they make that choice themselves.

That's no change to the status quo in many circumstances. The 'men's' events are often 'open' events in reality. So if I wanted to compete in them, and could achieve the required qualifying standard, where required, then I could. I'd get my arse kicked but ... I could do it.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 19/04/2020 19:44

Great news from Idaho by the way Smile
