www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/mar/30/the-men-who-give-up-on-their-spouses-when-they-have-cancer

The writer of this piece signed that letter condemning Suzanne Moore. I wonder if you're suffering from serious illness how you identify out of the fact that men are seven times more likely to leave? Illness doesn't understand gender identity unfortunately.

When Christie Sanchez was 12, she had the best stepdad in the world. He was charismatic and intelligent. He introduced her to new music and took her hiking every weekend. Then, her mom got sick

Christie shared her experience of the ordeal on a thread that went viral on Twitter in February. The tweet that sparked it all off read: “My sister had stage four cancer and her ex husband complained about her not doing her part to clean up. I will never forget that for as long as I live.”

so is this her mum or her sister who got cancer?

RoyalCorgi · 30/03/2020 14:48

zanahoria - it was someone else whose sister had stage four cancer and started the Twitter thread. Christie Sanchez's tweet was in response to the original tweet.

It's really badly written. No surprises there.

Surely the writer would think that a person’s behaviour would run according to the gender they expressed. I wonder what the trans widows think about that idea Hmm

Look at the Drewitt-Barlows, the charming Barrie has moved his daughter's ex-boyfriend into the family home and has split up with long term husband Tony who is dying of throat cancer. It's fine though because Barrie deserves to be happy.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 31/03/2020 02:27

Yep, I know one of those (now ex) husbands. His wife was in a serious car accident, in a coma for several days and eventually came home to recuperate. She recuperated well but they split up after a few months.

Two weeks after she moved out, he told her he was with someone else...it was pretty obvious he'd started seeing her before the official split.

One neighbour said that "he wasn't used to looking after her, she always looked after him." Well, phooey to that. Angry
I've lost all respect for him and he knows it!

Justhadathought · 31/03/2020 10:16

God, yes, how bleedin' ironic. Writers such as Poppy Noor, and so many others like her, actually do understand the ways in which men privilege themselves over women...but mysteriously forget that this is also applicable when it comes to TRA politics and demands.

The Lib-Fem creed is really quite something.....managing to articulate all that the 'correct' and 'permissible' about gender disparities.....at the same time as doing nothing to challenge the most fundamental threats. The more I see of Liberal Feminism the less respect I have for its practitioners.

Justhadathought · 31/03/2020 10:17

all that is correct and permissible

Justhadathought · 31/03/2020 10:20

One neighbour said that "he wasn't used to looking after her, she always looked after him

Reminds me of the utterly narcissistic and self centred behaviour on display by many AGP's towards their wives. It always comes down to them and their infantile emotional needs.

pachyderm · 31/03/2020 12:07

Poppy has written extensively about benefits, homelessness, what it's like to be marginalised. It's a pity she can't apply that class analysis to feminism but unfortunately as she's under 30 she'll have been indoctrinated by po-mo shite in university.

I know of a father who abandoned his children when one of them was born sick.
He couldn't handle it apparently, so left.

RoyalCorgi · 31/03/2020 13:01

I think it was Poppy Noor who wrote that story referring to "menstruators" a while back.
