NC but regular FWR poster.

So, as the nation's children are at home, Andrew Moffatt is going to be creating videos of his 'No Outsiders' books and assemblies for them to watch.

This is being promoted by schools already and I'm concerned parents will have no idea about the harm this material promotes in relation to girls and gender ideology.

If you work in schools please keep a close eye on this.

What are his qualifications?

Shelley Charlesworth's investigation & analysis of 'No Outsiders' Primary school program is important reading for parents, carers & teachers:

April 2019 'No Outsiders : Queering the Primary Classroom'
(concludes)
No Outsiders, like the duck’s egg, has been a long time in the hatching. It began in academia, in thrall to queer theory, and made its first and unsuccessful outing as a teaching resource to counter homophobia. It was refashioned as a way of teaching the Equality Act. But its links to gender identity theory have again been its undoing. Fatima and Mariam, the two Parkfield mothers quoted above, are right to be worried about its effects on their children.

What has happened at Parkfield school is horrible for all concerned. For the children who have to attend school in divisive and disruptive circumstances, for the parents who feel they are not being listened to, for the teachers facing protests and criticism while doing their jobs. Nobody wins. It’s also horrible for Andrew Moffat who has had to endure threats and homophobic name calling.

But it’s time he dropped the No Outsiders programme. Primary age children should be given clear factual information about biological sex, sex differences between girls and boys, about boundaries, respect and privacy. They should learn to say no to bullying of all sorts, and practice respect for difference and diversity. The rest can come later."

Wouldn’t this actually be an opportunity for parents to witness the material and see it for themselves rather than sending their children into school clueless and uninformed?

GRAConcerns · 23/03/2020 14:51

He is a gay man.

I say that in a deadpan way as this seems to trump everything in that his viewpoint is from a male perspective, a man who supports other men first and foremost, steamrollering over the rights of girls.

One of the books in the programme, 10,000 dresses, is particularly worrying as it reinforces regressive stereotypes.

My thought exactly.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 23/03/2020 15:44

This brand new resource provides much needed support for every primary school in the delivery of the objectives outlined in the Equality Act 2010; and in the provision of personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) for every child. This resource provides teachers with a curriculum that promotes equality for all sections of the community. But more than that, the resource aims to bring children and parents on board from the start so that children leave primary school happy and excited about living in a community full of difference and diversity, whether that difference is through ethnicity, gender, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or religion. The resource includes 5 lesson plans for every primary school year group (EYFS- Y6)

A resource for schools all about the Equality Act 2010 but misses out sex as a protected characteristic.

Deliberate genderism.
Jumping ahead of the law.

I think that the problem with might be that parents, who may well be working from home themselves, simply won’t have time to do much more than glance at some of the resources they pass to their kids. If parents are able to find a bit of time to help their children, then they will probably concentrate on subjects such as maths and reading. Resources such as No Outsiders, which parents may have heard of slightly but have no real knowledge of, may be used by parents who see them simply as a way to teach their children to be kind and/or inclusive. The parents won’t necessarily notice that the resource is actually teaching children (especially girls) to ignore boundaries and also teaching children about girl brains and boy brains i.e a boy that likes dresses is probably therefore a girl, as well as other worrying things.

Yes
Parents & carers should be aware that Moffat misrepresents the Equality Act 2010 by referring to gender/gender identity & ignoring the importance of sex-based protections.
This is a key piece of legislation.

WPUK
"The Equality Act (2010) identifies 9 protected characteristics.

They are

age
disability
gender reassignment
marriage & civil partnership
pregnancy & maternity
religion or belief
race
sex
sexual orientation
These protected characteristics exist to ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly and to guard against discrimination."

I see that as a problem too Chicken.
My children are at home and I'm working, so can't oversee everything.

I'd see the resource and believe it to be harmless. And, because it is being endorsed by senior leaders, I'd assume it was high quality.

This is how I think it will slip through the net.

Nameofchanges · 26/03/2020 15:41

Schools don’t have to teach children about the equality act. They have to teach children within the context of the equality act.

Telling small children that they have to treat certain groups in particular ways because this is the law is weaponising minority groups.

Ikeasucks · 26/03/2020 15:51

Schools are being mislead. Moffat calls himself an expert on the Equality Act.

Andrew Moffat is deliberately misquoting the law, where do we report this?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 27/03/2020 08:05

No one should be misrepresenting the law and pushing an ideology in our schools.

Lordfrontpaw · 27/03/2020 08:11

It’s important that parents keep an eye on what’s their kids are looking at and who they are speaking to on the web.

GRAConcerns · 27/03/2020 08:13

His services are being pushed by his multi academy trust, Excelsior, but not sure where the misleading re EA protected characteristics is reported to.

OP posts:
WrathofFaeKIopp · 27/03/2020 08:54

GRAConcerns
The multi academy trust Excelsior must not be a smokescreen that conveniently prevents people from pointing out irregularities in their operational activites.

They are influencing children within the school setting.
Andrew Moffat is appearing to be an expert in the Equality Act and working with schools.
Yet all the while misquoting the Equality Act.
Thankyou OP we need to keep a close eye on this.

Ikeasucks · 27/03/2020 09:45

I asked him fairly politely on twitter a year or more ago if he realised he had the EA wrong and he blocked me

Ikeasucks · 27/03/2020 09:56

How does likes of Mermaids get away with this. How can the EA2010 be applied to kids just declaring they want to use different pronouns, change their name or be nb etc? How can it be applied to kids in infant school?

ScapaFlo · 27/03/2020 10:03

My fear is that the government will just quietly update the Equality Act because so many institutions are misquoting it. I fear the government will just quietly and thoughtlessly bring it in line with the current sneaked-in narrative. And women and girls will lose. Again.

Lordfrontpaw · 27/03/2020 10:12

Quietly? No chance - more and more people are waking up to this and not just thinking 'aw the poor souls, it must be terrible...' and saying 'hang on...'

Ikeasucks · 27/03/2020 10:14

It’s already happening - all you have to do is get some folk into certain positions (education, local council, student union etc) where they can just change these things and no one notices. I knew nothing about the EA at all till a few yrs ago. My kids school had the EA as SEX/including transgender. I mean, where did that come from - someone is deliberately doing this

R0wantrees · 27/03/2020 10:20

Andrew Moffat is deliberately misquoting the law, where do we report this?

People can (& should) contact any school misquoting the Equality Act 2010.
Many have done this already with regards schools' diversity/inclusion policies. These have often been corrected
Schools will likely have made the error in good faith having downloaded information from what they believed was a trusted source.
It can be useful to advise governors of concerns as well as teaching staff.

Safe Schools Alliance have resouces & advice:

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/03/2020 10:57

Yes, definitely challenge this in your children's schools. They are often unaware they are providing incorrect information.

fudgefan · 27/03/2020 11:12

Pressure is mounting for the (mis)guidance to be amended to comply with the Equality Act and I don't see Moffat's fairy stories surviving the inevitable legal challenge.
