NC but regular FWR poster.

So, as the nation's children are at home, Andrew Moffatt is going to be creating videos of his 'No Outsiders' books and assemblies for them to watch.

This is being promoted by schools already and I'm concerned parents will have no idea about the harm this material promotes in relation to girls and gender ideology.

If you work in schools please keep a close eye on this.

I see the new slogan is "no one is the same, everyone is equal" Hmm

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/04/2020 13:20

Oh it's now a charity?!

Sorry I probably on catch up here.

A charity?!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/04/2020 13:22

Apologies I didn't rtft properly and am living in a fog at the moment.

skql · 13/04/2020 13:28

i can't believe him.
hope canceling no outsider program.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/04/2020 13:29

The lessons appear to be exactly the same currently as he's linked to the same book on his website.

You can just buy fucking lanyards.

I noticed that too Mole, it's a Christian source on the Warwickshire All About Me story too. There are some very clear religious undercurrents at play and both faiths are being manipulated in MSM to appear to be the good guy or the bad guy, depending on the position of the media outlet. I'm sure Pink News would tackle this completely differently.

“John Denning, Education Officer at The Christian Institute, called for swift action to ensure parents are aware of the changes.

Mr Denning said: “Warwickshire’s climbdown will come as welcome news to hundreds of concerned parents. The highly explicit imagery and one-sided ideology of All About Me has no place in Primary Relationships Education.

“Schools are obviously facing a challenging time at the moment. But as soon as they can, they must consult with parents on a different approach to teaching RSE which complies with the law. As with other teaching in state schools, it must be balanced, objective and critical, not pushing particular controversial views such as transgender ideology.”

Wouldn't you love to read the letter from the Vicar? I'd really like to know more about that, I find it hard to believe that one letter changed Moffat's mind, not just because of how long he was working on this before it was launched and how strong the backlash was, but I don't think Moffat would change his approach overnight after one sincere letter. Hmmm.

Goosefoot · 13/04/2020 13:58

Sometimes I think the real issue is that some of these people - Moffat in this case - are just very shallow thinkers. Someone who finds it a revelation that tolerate is different than celebrate, or doesn't appreciate that rights involve a lot of juggling and social negotiation - why would anyone think a person like that would produce something acceptable to teach kids about these issues? It's a very shallow understanding of people and of ideology, belief, and of human rights at the adult level.

OhHolyJesus · 13/04/2020 14:07

Perhaps that's it Goose and the Vicar's letter offered a different POV that Moffat hadn't been presented with before, he just took the protests to be homophobic and didn't think to question the reasoning behind it.

I find it really depressing to think that there could be a great number of teachers who are 'shallow thinkers' in our schools, who don't necessarily go along with No Outsiders but simply think that asking questions of the programme is homophobic and therefore wrong. I'm hopeful that teachers, by the very nature of their profession, are more likely to be critical thinkers if not GC.

On the plus side for "No Outsiders" - genuinely - this video shows what a difference it makes when children are centred and adults listen to their concerns.

The video is "Unlisted" but The Guardian article links to it (I think that is how I came across it).

It is a bit odd in terms of Safeguarding to see children so clearly identified by both name and school and with so many personal details included. It would have been a bit better, in terms of Safeguarding, if Mr Moffat had disallowed "embedding". Even better if it had been edited, cutting out or muting the parts where the children introduce themselves.

The video itself though is really good!

Goosefoot · 13/04/2020 14:12

I work in a school currently, tutoring primary school children who have fallen behind in math and literacy. I can't say I have been hugely impressed by the educational or developmental insight of the teaching staff. They generally love children, and a few are quite good, but most are fairly poorly educated themselves.

On the plus side for "No Outsiders" - genuinely - this video shows what a difference it makes when children are centred and adults listen to their concerns.

It was the third year of an annual project by Cheshire Academy Trust.
They chose to link to 'No Outsiders' as the topic for the speeches in the year featured.

MoleSmokes · 13/04/2020 18:47

Did Cheshire Academy Trust not actually run the "No Outsiders" programme then, R0wantrees?? Crikey! It had me fooled, if that's the case Blush

R0wantrees · 13/04/2020 19:43

I think they used the 'No Outsiders' as a theme for the third public speaking event.
Its quite possible that theyve also used the program in the schools that are part of the trust as well.
The public speaking event though was in its third year. Its lovely to see children speaking confidently about things that matter to them.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/04/2020 09:37

Goose I'm a teacher, of 20 years. I agree with you.

I have more brain cells it's seems today. If I have time I will investigate a bit. (This lockdown business is phenomenally difficult with toddlers I must say. I'm grateful for outdoor space.)

My son's school has sent out its RSE policy for review. They follow NO but I noticed one clear line, that they were the teachers and wouldn't be fully endorsed outside agencies. NO is definitely an outside agency now it's a charity.

Not sure where they can stand using it in the curriculum now? The council funded the programme in a cluster of 6 schools.

The other thing is that now it's a charity, NO may be bought in by NHS? Under MH and lgbt. I know a commissioning dr who used funding for a lgbt charity into schools in this way. In response to increasing Gp visits by young people.

Though after corona I think funding for anything anywhere will be limited.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/04/2020 09:42

Mole, that is a good video. I wonder if he's changing tact.

Other lessons around disability and difference were ok in the book.

He fucked up royally by using the EA.

The trans stuff was in early though; he trialled lessons with another teacher up here locally many years ago. Some sort of link to Sunderland university and a small research project.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/04/2020 11:43

Worth following his twitter feed as he's linked a book already.

This one is actually a lovely book linked to a child being ill and missing out on things.

Has the link to the home learning been shared yet?

I can't open those links on my phone. There's some nice examples of work on his Twitter feed, mainly around difference. Lovely ideas actually.

Interesting tweet re the pink news coverage:

It's about difference which is good and relevant. But millions of red flags there under pop and olly.

As always the issue is that the trans ideology is that therefore trans is also fully acceptable and without harm. Which we know isn't the full story for children. Coercion into accepting that particular difference without question.

Though if Moffat is welcoming dialogue I wonder if he knows what he's opening up?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/04/2020 12:03

The ks1 trans book is still in the new book:

It's the teddy one at the bottom.

I note that the "further" sample lessons linked on the website are carefully cherry picked to be less controversial.

All the original further lessons are still on his blog. Including the ones about T.
