Brilliant satire!

...but it's hard to tell. When I first read it I thought it was real. That's how far down the rabbit hole I am.

It's hard to tell, right? Grin

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 14/03/2020 21:14

I already have a number of self diagnosed illnesses 😂

CallarMorvern · 14/03/2020 21:15

I'd say I'm very gender critical, Mumsnet has educated me well on this subject, whilst the real life people I know seem woefully oblivious.
But this is just pisstaking and quite frankly a bit unpleasant.

nauticant · 14/03/2020 21:43

I think you should be able to joke about almost anything. But that's ill-advised. It's the kind of thing that could backfire horribly.

Sometimes you need to think about the optics and wait for a more opportune moment.

Ha! I think that's hilarious. Poking fun at the sacred gender ideology is good. It stops people being so afraid of causing offence that they stop thinking.

It's hard to tell, right?

'Godfrey Elfwick' does regular satirical pieces of this sort, with a variety of targets. This piece (by Andrew Doyle, the alter ego of Titania McGrath) gives an idea ...

Among all the grim news, that was a good laugh. It almost seemed realistic. Grin

The fact that so many thought it was genuine should give pause for thought. I've seen worse, and they weren't satire.

On a more serious note, I hope this is a wake-up call for all those in the health industry, doctors and nurses who were happy to play along for a while.
Surely it is vital to record the SEX of the infected, the SEX of those who survive and who die, for the sake of accurate statistics.

COVID-19 could very well be transphobic. I've heard that male smokers have a higher mortality rate.

It really could be real.
There are plenty of people who think/behave this way!

OtherVoicesOtherRooms · 15/03/2020 08:16

I know it's satire BTW! Grin

I think we'll hear.

'Phoenix' sounds like a delight. Not at all self absorbed either.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 15/03/2020 09:02

Wow Phoenix.

That article is gold.

Lamahaha · 15/03/2020 09:16

I hope someone informs phoenix's nan.

I already have a number of self-diagnosed illnesses and so it’s tricky to for me navigate the myriad of physical sensations already caused by my PTSD, my anxiety, my M.E., my bulimia

Sorry, I think some of that is in quite poor taste - the conditions listed are already ones treated with very little compassion, and diagnosis and appropriate treatment are often in short supply. Drawing a comparison between the social construct of gender identity and recognised mental health conditions and a physical health condition seen as a diagnosis of exclusion... I don't know. It doesn't sit well with me.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/03/2020 09:44

There's always one... 🙄

HotPenguin · 15/03/2020 09:52

It is in poor taste, but only yesterday I was thinking it was the first time in recent days that I have heard the Labour party talk about something real - i.e. their criticism of the govt response to covid - instead of wittering on about factional infighting and gender identity. So there's a serious point behind it for me.

GinnyLane · 15/03/2020 09:53

Yup, there is always one, unsurprising on a website that solicits opinions.

I find it a poor juxtaposition to call out anxiety, PTSD and bulimia, when so much rhetoric used by GC feminists explicitly mentions that women suffer from these conditions in part due to the misogynistic society in which we live. ME also disproportionately affects women, and I do find it spectacularly crass to equate it with self diagnosis.

Not everyone finds all jokes funny shrugs

IrisAtwood · 15/03/2020 09:56

Very funny :D

koshkatt · 15/03/2020 09:58

Ginny I have had PTSD, suffer very badly from anxiety and and was bulimic for most of my tweens and twenties. Surely the whole point is that the self obsessed gender loons co-opt these conditions and pretend to have them to garner sympathy? THAT is what is in poor taste.

It is a piss take and a very good one.

koshkatt · 15/03/2020 10:00

And yes HotPenguin - maybe this real life issue that our politicians now have to confront will stop the ridiculous blathering about the importance of pronouns...we can live in hope.

GinnyLane · 15/03/2020 10:05

It's completely fine and fair that other people read it differently to me - humour is very subjective, each to their own! I just don't think it's my place to decide whether or not someone is co-opting a condition, or if they actually require treatment. Add to that that three of those listed could very well be the cause of dysphoria... and it just doesn't work from me.

As ever, it is interesting and informative to hear how others perceive GC commentary, i was simply trying to offer the same.
