This is the comment that got me banned from a Reddit forum. It was in response to someone posting the comment in bold;
How is this very woman different from any other woman in the world?
Well let's see - they weren't raised and socialised as a woman, they don't have the same chromosomes, they've never had periods, they will never have their reproductive rights threatened, they won't have been raised with the knowledge that the other half of the world's population is physically stronger than they are and that any one of them could be a potential threat ....
Your cause really isn't helped by this sort of shit honestly. Saying that a transwoman is not any different from a born women is scientific garbage. You can't have any sort of sensible debate about any issue if you demand that people believe something that is patently untrue.
And yeah I know I'm going to get a load of shouts about being transphobic. But when you require me to believe that "a transwoman is no different to a born woman" and that is obviously not true how can I not be "transphobic" in your definition? It feels like you want me to switch off my rational mind.
And the weird thing is - I kind of think I'm a "moderate" on this issue. I can't feel strongly about "transwomen are women". When you're talking about people like Jan Morris and what they went through because of the need to live as a woman it does seem fair to accept her as a woman. I genuinely thought a few months ago that areas of conflict could be resolved.
Not claiming any hero status here - I just thought it was interesting to see how the debate is polarising us all. Anyway I did, strangely, end up with a credit balance of four upvotes which when you consider I must have got hundreds of downvotes as well shows there were a lot of people silently agreeing!!
