Interesting stuff, but then:

^But the best option was to install gender-neutral cubicles, with optional urinals for men, which delivered even greater time savings for women.
"For the unisex scenario, there's higher utilisation of your resources and inevitably leads to less waiting," says Professor Wouter Rogiest, one of the study's authors. "This [also] caters for the needs of transgender [people]." ^

Really? Maybe in computer simulations, but in RL the queues would probably be even more reduced by the number of women who choose not to join it.

I am also wondering about that [also]. Did the editors insert it for 'clarity'? Or replace a longer clause for brevity? Because the sentence has a subtly different implication without it.

Re the surprise poo issue, IME it's another consequence of childbirth. It rarely happened to me before I had babies. I vividly remember the horror when I realised that I could not tell when I needed a poo. Obstetrician mentioned nerve damage, wait and see whether it improves, do you PFEs. It did improve a bit, nonetheless I still get t taken by surprise.

A woman take up to twice as long as a man to use the toilets? Nope. Not when biology bites her on the bum again.

They look horrific. I would have to be desperate to be forced into using that.
Just provide more toilets for women.

HarrietThePi · 15/03/2020 18:40

From the YouTube video it looks to me as if these are toilets out in the open with no doors? No way in hell would I be using one of those.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/03/2020 07:46

So............. female urinals.... inventing a thing that has no real purpose and trying to invent a purpose for it! Keeping it's masculine name of course... women have never used urinals!

We have perfectly good toilets that are adequate, could be made more comfortable for women but no.... we'll just be less comfortable, more likely to piss on our own feet, more on display and quicker because we will actively avoid the bloody things.

MRAs invented these...

I’m all for having floor to ceiling cubicles with wash basins in and make them unisex. That way men will be caught in the same queue and something might get done about it.

Winesalot · 17/03/2020 10:00

Yes Flamingo. My husband has commented how much extra time it takes to go to a gender neutral loo vs a male with a urinal. He hopes it ceases to be popular. That is actually the way to keep it single sex, take away all men’s loos (instead of merely converting ladies into gender neutral) and they will complain loudly.

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 04:12

There are no hand washing facilities at all in those little cubicles. Even the portaloos have the ability to wash hands.

I'm fucking tired of people popping up every couple of years announcing that women have had it wrong all this time and they've found a much better, quicker, simpler way for us to wee while out and about without being so annoying, complaining and asking for more toilets, cluttering up the place with queues, taking so bloody long etc etc.
The red flag is when they talk about it being faster/more efficient to wee in their newfangled way, as if we wander to the loo and get confused about how to do it, can't find our way out etc.
All these years we've been asking for more loos. If they just fucking started getting it done instead of trotting out their new inventions we'd be there by now. God forbid anyone should listen to what women ask for.
I don't want to wee in public - no door, no cubicle, no seat - squatting over a hole while holding my clothes up out of puddles of piss, with nowhere to put my coat or bag while blokes walk past. Thanks but no thanks.
Obvs inventions which actually solve problems (if you like those stand-up things, Shewee and the like) are a different matter.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/03/2020 19:32

Agree, they can just fuck off.

Once again, it’s women to blame. Apparently.
