I do love the fact that there are some journalists out there that just aren’t prepared to lie in order to ‘be kind’. Love her or loathe her, she doesn’t care about ‘cancel culture’.

Well said Julia!

Laura goes on to talk about "girls" missing school. How transphobic not to mention all the transboys missing school because of periods!
Or is she guilty of misgendering them?

Feltywelty · 12/03/2020 16:59

I just can't believe we're at a point where this needs to be stated AND its considered controversial.

HollowTalk · 12/03/2020 17:08

That was so funny. How come middle class young women feel the need to do this?

HollowTalk · 12/03/2020 17:09

Sorry, that should have been, "How come so many middle class young women feel the need to do this."

It's interesting that quite a few responders think she's talking about transwomen. Maybe because they often insist they can have periods, who knows.

But, again, actual women aren't noticed at all. Even when they are the actual subject of the conversation.

Datun · 12/03/2020 17:26

ooh getting carried away with my actuals there 🤣

Mockerswithnoknockers · 12/03/2020 17:26

The 5% tax cut is going to make no difference to retail prices which are set according to the market.

JellySlice · 12/03/2020 17:43

It's interesting that quite a few responders think she's talking about transwomen.

Probably because of the trans ideology's distortion of language - many people think that transwomen are women who are trans, ie identify as men. Which makes mores sense than the way that word is actually used.

TheRealMcKenna · 12/03/2020 17:47

Actually, there are a tiny number of very loud trans women (looking at you Munroe) who would object to the very idea of talking about periods and women in the same sentence on a radio show as it ‘excludes’ trans women from the conversation.

Oh this was great. The caller sounded so out of her depth. They all seem to have the same voice nowadays.

EmpressAlexandra · 12/03/2020 19:18

It’s rather sad. The caller is clearly very young. She has good instincts, but has been brainwashed into garbling a lot of nonsense. Educate yourself Laura! Read some genuine feminism- Simone de Beauvoir for instance. Feminism needs principled dedicated young women. It’s such a shame they’ve all been hypnotised and bullied into supporting a men’s rights movement instead of caring about actual .... women.

Lamahaha · 12/03/2020 19:19

At first, she had that "you are so behind the times!" condescending smirky preachy voice and was totally shocked to find that Julia didn't take up the appropriate, expected , "oh I'm so sorry, I need to educate myself" line of response so many people do. That she, Julia, refused to "be educated" and instead called her out on the foolishness.

Then runs to Twitter to get some gentle strokes from the echo-chamber.
Just brilliant, and will take a few more listeners to the summit!

Once we all stop kowtowing to the ridiculous language the house of cards falls in on itself. Men have periods, indeed. Grin

Datun · 12/03/2020 19:27

She is trying to help women, but she is incapable of identifying them.

And she thinks she can do both those things. Help women whilst not being able to identify them. And she just found out she can't.

How can it possibly be sexism, Laura???

Have a think about who is affected by period poverty. Before you want to call them 'people'.

Who is affected by FGM, who is affected by 'it was consensual' when 'people' are strangled to death during sex, who is affected by being fired if they're pregnant, who is affected by constraining business hours because they are doing the bulk of the domestic work?

Think Laura.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 12/03/2020 19:38

Hahahahaha. That's brilliant. I love how JHB has absolutely no truck with any of this nonsense language and doesn't bother being polite about it either. It's her show and she's running it exactly how she wants to.

I know quite a few woke idiots like Laura and they really genuinely believe that a person born with a penis and XY chromosomes has actually been a biological woman since birth if he thinks that to be the case. I have no idea how to argue with such stupidity but the JHB approach seems as good a way as any - just bluntly shut it down.

^ This. People have been playing along with the faux ideas and language for far too long, perhaps out of politeness and so as not to offend or simply to avoid argument. This is the way to do it: brisk, no-nonsense calling it out for the utter stupidity of the argument. No more pandering to the woke, however well-intentioned they may be.

I still don't understand how we could possibly have reached this point in the 21st century.

HermioneWeasley · 12/03/2020 19:53

I love JHB on this - she gives zero fucks

Laura is a virtue signalling idiot

Datun · 12/03/2020 19:58

That's not who Laura is referring to, though. She would never call them 'men'.

She is referring to women, who identify as men. Hence 'men with uteruses'.

Chloemol · 12/03/2020 20:08

Loved how Laura was insistent men can have periods and then started to talk about girls suffering from period poverty. She’s nuts

DidoLamenting · 12/03/2020 20:12

The caller is clearly very young

The caller is 26 or 27. She was 21 in 2014 when she started her campaign when she was a student at Goldsmiths.

I know MN is obsessed with the idea that children are children well beyond the age I would call them children but 26 or 27 is not "very young".

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 12/03/2020 20:12

Datun yes I know, I should perhaps have been clearer. It's just that you hear far more attention being given to TWAW than to TMAM. The woke idiots obviously believe in both.

HarrietThePi · 12/03/2020 20:14

Haha that was awesome

Qcng · 12/03/2020 20:17

Caller "people who have periods... Blah blah"

Julie Hartley Brewer "you mean women and girls, I won't have that nonsense on my show"

Caller "but some men have periods'

JHB "I think they're lying to you"

Lolllllll

HarrietThePi · 12/03/2020 20:20

The caller is 26 or 27. She was 21 in 2014 when she started her campaign when she was a student at Goldsmiths.

I'm 32 so that makes her about 6/7 years younger than me. At 26 I'd just had my DD, I was well aware of nonsense gender idealogy and I knew who had periods. I just don't buy the age excuse.

Any qualification from Goldsmiths keeps you young forever. A bit like that film "death becomes her".
