It’s ok it all quieted down pretty quickly & stewards helped people to leave safely. Just has a fab conversation on the tube with other attendees.

How absolutely disgustingly disrespectful to be letting smoke bombs off on the Grenfell Estate, FFS. These children have no sense of dignity or solidarity with anyone except themselves. Angry

Cwenthryth · 09/03/2020 22:11

The bar is open till 11 tho so hope those who stayed are also safe

NameChangeOctober · 09/03/2020 22:29

I also had fab conversation on the tube. Were you with Maya?

flowery · 09/03/2020 22:36

Another one who had great conversations on the tube! Just on the train back now.

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 23:12

Oh glad you’re all okay.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/03/2020 23:13

I'm glad you're all safe. I just saw a tweet from Lucy Masoud, a firefighter who was at Grenfell, saying that a resident objected to the smoke bombs and a protester shouted 'We don't give a fuck.' twitter.com/luluchops1/status/1237143797944987651?s=19

Thelnebriati · 09/03/2020 23:19

Like the time they had a noisy protest outside a meeting for abuse survivors.

Police were there when we left and protesters were almost quiet. It was a great event but I agreed with the woman who asked the question about whether there was any real hope for Labour anymore. When I think of all the time, energy, money and support women have given to the Labour Party and trade union movement over the decades, I want to cry and scream at the same time.

Cwenthryth · 09/03/2020 23:39

I was already sat down when Maya got on. Long purple hair :-)

The protesters - meh. Tonight was not about them, they had zero influence or input on proceedings. I don’t know what their goal was but they achieved nothing other than show how really nasty they are.

Tonight we heard from some wonderful women (and a few men and a transwoman) standing up for women’s rights and sending a strong message to the Labour Party. The question is - is the Labour Party listening?

Aesopfable · 09/03/2020 23:42

The question is - is the Labour Party listening?

If they are, you will find out when they expel you.

pombear · 09/03/2020 23:47

Cwenthryth just sent you a message! Agree - meh.

They cover their faces, we don't.

And tube-activism, the way forward Smile

Smoke bombs on the Grenfell estate, intimidation of abuse survivors — do the TRAs have a manual called How To Be A Mindless Narcissist (and reveal your true self to onlookers who might otherwise have been taken in by your self-pity)?

BlackeyedSusan · 09/03/2020 23:55

Seems so.

NYnachos · 10/03/2020 00:05

I had a load of flash photos taken as I left (like being a celebrity... 🙄). Hoping they don't go any further - I noticed that the protesters were all wearing masks.

nonsenceagain · 10/03/2020 00:11

Yep, noticed the masks too. What are they ashamed of?

Janeaustensquill · 10/03/2020 00:17

I was there tonight - great speeches and delighted to have a chat with the inspirational Lucy Masood afterwards. I got lost on the way to the venue and found it because of the chanting of the protestors! It was brilliant to hear women talking confidently, with energy, humour and passion - but so astonishing that our right to free speech and to discuss our sex based rights is under threat. Had my photo taken too as I left. Gave them a big smile!! Agree that there is something rotten at the heart of Labours attitude to women as discussed tonight and don’t have much hope that the party can be rescued from its current state of woeful wokeness. Maybe something new can rise from their ashes.

OccasionalKite · 10/03/2020 01:08

Asking because I don't know:

what was this meeting?

And is it true, did I read it correctly, that certain factions let off smoke bombs at a public event?

Please correct me if I got this wrong.

ThePurported · 10/03/2020 01:30

Kite It was the Labour Women’s Declaration rally
mobile.twitter.com/LabWomenDec
and yes, smoke bombs were let off.

"I've been told that senior Labour figures want to support me but are scared," says
@ selina_todd #ExpelMe "it isn't brave for Labour leadership to support women - it's part of the job description"

Are these the same cowards who publicly mutter something about 'both sides'?

wellbehavedwomen · 10/03/2020 01:39

I'd say they don't have any lower to sink, but I'd hate to set them a challenge.

And they say women lack empathy, for not wanting males in women's single sex spaces. So awful of us, not to prioritise men at all times. Wicked, really.

Cwenthryth · 10/03/2020 07:43

A trans activist group called “London Bi Pandas” have admitted on Twitter that they set the smoke bombs off

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/03/2020 07:45

They "realised too late".

IE they didn't think about it at all. Bit of a theme there the inability to think...

definitelygc · 10/03/2020 07:51

I'm thinking of emailing the Labour leadership candidates who signed the trans pledge today to point out that they have enabled this. This is what happens when you, as a person of influence, casually smear other people as extremists and hate groups. When you sign a pledge saying people with certain views should be rooted out and expelled from political parties like a modern day witch hunt. They have created the hostile environment for these masked idiots with their sweary, aggressive signs and their smoke bombs and they should apologise.

Becles · 10/03/2020 07:55

I was there last night. So many determined women (and a few brave blokes) there, and according to Twitter there were people who came from outside London (Norfolk and Leeds) just to attend.

The room went silent and the energy so sad when someone asked whether we should walk away from Labour Sad

BadgertheBodger · 10/03/2020 07:59

I just despair of these people. Smoke bombs on the Grenfell Estate? Christ. I wish someone in a position of authority would come down on this like a tonne of bricks. Time for our politicians to support women discussed their existing sex-based rights.

Cwenthryth · 10/03/2020 08:03

I know, I wanted to speak at that point to spread some hope as a new Labour member, inspired by the LWD women that there is hope for the party, and for all those like the woman who spoke who has walked away due to feeling bullied in her CLP, that those of us able to will pick up and carry on. I put my hand up too late to get a microphone though, damn nerves!

Writing to candidates is a good idea, they’re getting a lot of mentions on Twitter but we all know that direct contact is much more effective.
