Women-only library event

drownininplaymobil · 06/03/2020 20:45

Our local library is holding a free Charleston class in celebration of International Women's day. This update has just been added to the Facebook event:
'This event is women (and those who identify as women) only - sorry fellas!'

Sigh.

No lighthearted apology to the women then.

Well they can’t rightly say ‘no trans people’ can they? It’s a one off event where I presume no one will be getting naked or being put in compromising positions.

janeskettle · 06/03/2020 20:54

I just ignore events now that are for women but are actually mixed. What's the point? If I'd wanted a mixed event I certainly could find one any day of the week.

The last thing I dismissed for being mixed but lying about it was a women's poetry competition - for women and males. Fuck that.

But also, seriously, fuck the males who are so selfish that they think they are entitled to women's events and spaces.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 06/03/2020 20:57

The kind of navel gazing, verification demanding male bodied born trans person that demands to attend a woman not event, is exactly the kind I don’t want to share with. Hmm

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 06/03/2020 20:58

woman *only event, I mean. Though. 😁

DariaWalker · 06/03/2020 21:00

Well they can’t rightly say ‘no trans people’ can they?

They probably could given the event is in honour of International Women's Day.

“woman” means a female of any age.

BringbackLang · 06/03/2020 21:04

So they are saying that anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome. So that's anyone then. Might as well call it a mixed sex event and be done with it.

aliasundercover · 06/03/2020 21:05

I think more events are going to have to become ‘by invitation only’.

Much harder to organise, loads more stress for everyone involved, but at least there’s a chance that the event might end up with only women attending.

JellySlice · 07/03/2020 08:44

Well they can’t rightly say ‘no trans people’ can they?

They can, rightly and legitimately say 'no men'.

They cannot, rightly and legitimately, say 'no transmen'.

They can, rightly and legitimately, say 'no transwomen' - but they shouldn't need to.

They've said quite the opposite.

It is not a women's event.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/03/2020 18:03

It’s not a woman only event then. Tell the feckers! It ask every woman you know to come alone and bring their husbands/boyfriends/brothers/male friends and see what they say.
