Julie Bindel Women's day hijacked by trans activists

BovaryX · 06/03/2020 13:37

In a blistering article in the Telegraph, Julie Bindel cites the Professor Selina Todd deplatforming, the removal of the dictionary definition of women because of 'hate speech' accusations and the myriad other examples of the colonisation of Women's day by those who insist 'women' is a choice based on feelings.

But my main bone of contention is reserved for the LGBT Foundation in Manchester. One of its events for IWD, advertised as being open to “all self-identifying women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer or questioning, all or part of the time” is run by a man who identifies as non-binary and is entitled, ‘Intro to rope bondage’. The idea that ‘playing’ with sadistic sexual practices is anything to do with women’s liberation beggars belief

The result? People feel sorry for the trans activists and IWD is centring trans people all the more

Nope. That's not the result. Harry Miller. Keira Bell. Maya Forstater. Professor Selina Todd. Justice Knowles. James Kirkup. Julie Bindel. You really don't get it, do you? The insidious advance of an undemocratic, authoritarian lobby is making headline news every day. The fact you are unable to see that the this exposure doesn't elicit sympathy? Echo chamber thinking.

Yes. It made into the MSM and if you think anyone outside of a far left twitter bubble feels sorry for transactivists I've got a bridge I can sell you.

Organisations may crumble and pander at the moment but most do it out of fear not love or admiration. That's not a solid basis for a movement and it will eventually fall apart at the seams.

TedsFederationRep · 06/03/2020 17:48

And MP Jackie Doyle Price, who gave a cracking speech yesterday in the House of Commons yesterday on the subject.

GodwinsRulebook · 06/03/2020 17:48

This is a war on language

Not just on language, but on the fundamental definition & concept of what it is to be a woman. And an attack on the validity and value of our lived experiences as girls and women.

THAT is what makes me ragingly furious

FrogsFrogs · 06/03/2020 17:48

The definition of woman is not a slogan that Posie owns FFS

Ridiculous

BovaryX · 06/03/2020 17:52

Yes. It made into the MSM and if you think anyone outside of a far left twitter bubble feels sorry for transactivists I've got a bridge I can sell you

These are the people who think Owen Jones is a clairvoyant and are still reeling in shock and awe from the election result.....

her Tweets claiming trans people should be sterilised

Again, I'm not in agreement with her but this is very disingenuous.

She suggested that (in line with many countries) full SR surgery should be a requirement for a GRC. Her mistake was a badly phrased last tweet of the chain which could be taken out of context.

SapphosRock · 06/03/2020 17:55

Well it made the BBC and I wouldn't say the article was particularly complimentary to whoever provided the flags, especially considering the title.

And - the horror - she’s right wing ! Good god how shocking.

Actually she’s been a lifelong Labour Party Voter although not now I expect.

Even if she secretly sends love letters to Boris Johnson and recites the Telegraph to herself nightly, the fact of someone being right wing doesn’t make them wrong. Even if she disagrees with you on - gasp - immigration. She might have a coherent argument to make. That’s what I take from the Brexit debacle - claiming to be the progressive side while sneering at people who disagree with you is not what serious people do.

If I had any residual loyalty to the parties of the left this trans agenda nonsense has beaten it out of me and I’m free to agree with whoever I think has the most cogent arguments. It’s quite liberating.

Her speech is great. Very clear.

Binterested · 06/03/2020 17:59

Oh and if I had any residual loyalty to the BBC ...

Well you can guess where this is going.

OvaHere · 06/03/2020 17:59

You don't really understand what most people think when they read articles like that do you? Note the inverted comma's.

They don't make the majority of people reading them think 'poor transactivists.'

Winesalot · 06/03/2020 17:59

Sorry, here is the link.

Binterested · 06/03/2020 18:01

Poor Joss. Poor Adrian Harrop.

Readers across the country are so concerned for them and how oppressed they have been.

BovaryX · 06/03/2020 18:01

Well it made the BBC

The fact the trans lobby is shutting down Oxford feminist historians, defending puberty blockers for 16 year olds, bragging about the police 'checking the thinking' of Harry Miller whilst public confidence in their ability to investigate actual crime is at an all time low? That's being reported robustly way beyond the BBC. The Guardian might still be on mute. But the papers that matter have broken their silence.

all self-identifying women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer or questioning, all or part of the time

Part of the time. Part. Of. The. Time.

Like womanhood is just something you can 'slip into' as and when you feel like it.

This horseshit is just so offensive. Not only to women but also to gay and bisexual people as well.

Fuck them.

Floisme · 06/03/2020 18:03

Its really interesting to watch a thread about the hijacking of Women's Day getting hijacked in turn.

TedsFederationRep · 06/03/2020 18:08

Thank you, Winesalot.

I've written to Jackie Doyle Price to thank her, also to Lord Lucas to thank him.

The other week, I wrote to my MP in the wake of the Harry Miller case to urge her to remind universities of the right to free speech. She is the Universities Minister.

Politicians need to know where public opinion really lies.

Winesalot · 06/03/2020 18:20

Ted I just wrote to J DP to thank her too. You are correct, Lord Lucas also needs a thank you.

Binterested · 06/03/2020 18:30

Just watched Jackie Doyle Price’s speech. Very clear. Who else has spoken like this in the HoC?

BovaryX · 06/03/2020 18:40

This was posted on another thread, but I think it is worth reposting here. What is going on when only 1 in 9 people have confidence in the police to investigate real crime, but they are obediently checking the thinking of people like Harry Miller at the behest of a niche lobby?

DariaWalker · 06/03/2020 18:51

As a long time audience member of Mumsnet I felt compelled to wade in about this because, for me, this appropriation of our International Women's Day by these men is so hateful. It tells us all we need to know about such men.

Winesalot · 06/03/2020 19:32

It is telling isn’t it Daria?

Goosefoot · 06/03/2020 19:52

Using "right wing" as a slur shows a lack of intellectual seriousness. (The reverse is also true.)

Notwithstanding the fact that many people labeled right wing these days, aren't.
