Minnie Driver defends GC journo

Journalist calls someone a handmaiden on Twitter. Person (a charity worker and Guardian journo) contacts women's editor to complain and boasts about it on Twitter.

Minnie Driver (200,000 plus followers) hands her her arse.

Minnie Driver (@driverminnie) Tweeted:
@SarahWoolley @MsMarmitelover @bbcthree @DrRonx @SeldonMoore @HamandHigh You’re a charity worker ? Perhaps brush up on your compassion when not ‘using’ it in the context of a chat while bitterly trying to lose someone their job.

It'll be interesting to see if Minnie Driver keeps that tweet up.

theflushedzebra · 05/03/2020 21:15

Wow, imagine having Minnie Driver jump into an argument to defend you. I'd take Minnie Driver on my side any day Grin

Sarah Woolley is indeed far worse than a "handmaiden" contacting a woman's employer over a twitter spat! Honestly, what are things coming to Hmm

NoCisAllWoman · 05/03/2020 21:20

nauticant Minnie Driver's pinned tweet shows her position very clearly, I'm guessing she will keep that response up. Well done Minnie.

NoCisAllWoman · 05/03/2020 21:24

Oh and she's a self-proclaimed Darwinian Feminist 👍

nauticant · 05/03/2020 21:26

In that case, good on you Minnie. I hope the attention you attract doesn't cause you too much of a nuisance.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/03/2020 21:29

Minnie's twitter bio says she's a "Darwinian feminist". Not sure what that means.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/03/2020 21:30

Cross-posted! It's good then?

I would imagine it would be very very difficult to be openly GC in Hollywood.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 05/03/2020 21:30

It's really annoyed old felt tip eyebrows.
Angry narc rage right there.

Imagine anyone being driven off anything because someone told them they were a handmaiden.

I'm considering writing to Quaker Social Action, where Woolley is a fundraiser, asking her employer if they want to be associated with this sort of person, and if they believe that these actions follow Quaker values.

Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't do this? I'm angry at the moment so I might not be thinking straight.

LynnSchmob · 05/03/2020 21:47

Well done Minnie

Also - who really gives a shite about what Joss Prior thinks? They’ve got the same fame levels as someone who was on Big Brother season 4.

iguanadonna · 05/03/2020 21:49

Her pinned tweet - I was mystified that most of the replies were TRAs like 'yes! Kids get it! They accept!' when I thought it was GC and sarcastic. But am I wrong?

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/03/2020 22:14

That's what I thought too iguanadon. I think Minnie might be a rather clever woman.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/03/2020 22:15

Go for it, aliasundercover

jadefinch · 05/03/2020 22:19

On a similar note, this is another writer for the Guardian, who is the OPINIONS EDITOR of a women's magazine - furious that the Guardian published the opinions of female readers that are different to hers

TitianaTitsling · 05/03/2020 22:21

I'm a bit confused though as the initial tweet is not Minnie saying the best conversation of last 5 years was telling her son his friend's mum was now his dad?

TitianaTitsling · 05/03/2020 22:22

Was the dragon bit Minnie saying it's like you saying it's just like someone wanting to be something that's impossible, or 'if you say you are something then you absolutely are'?

theflushedzebra · 05/03/2020 22:34

iguana - I took it the same way as you.

LiterallyProblematic · 05/03/2020 22:42

Nice one Minnie!
Bit of trivia, the Madness song ‘My Girl’ was written about Kerstin Rodgers.
Also Ramzy Alwakeel, the joint editor at the Ham & High is TRA. Hope he isn’t a dick about this.

theflushedzebra · 05/03/2020 23:00

Nice bit of trivia about Kerstin there Smile

I don't know if there's another thread about this, but this is the video that the gormless Sarah Woolley was applauding (and which caused Kerstin to call her a handmaiden):

twitter.com/bbcthree/status/1233180011487612928

It starts with a transman who wears a binder saying "I can't walk a lot, I can't run a lot, I can't do a lot of exercise, because it compresses my chest so much that I can't breathe properly." and supposedly getting "advice" on it. We don't see any of that "advice" on the clip. (My advice would be to bin the fucking thing, actually, and allow yourself to breathe and walk.)

Sarah Woolley states this video is "Wonderful!! More please!"

What's wonderful about it?? Is breast ironing and foot binding also "wonderful" ??

LiterallyProblematic · 05/03/2020 23:16

It’s absolutely mental. It beggars belief that we are at a place culturally where a self harming teenager is told to continue self harming by a bloody doctor for telly.

Siameasy · 05/03/2020 23:24

Bloody hell I had never heard of this Sarah Woolley what a divvy cow

Throughthegate · 05/03/2020 23:40

The one where she's mad because he didn't want to see the film tonight? But she's lovely etc. Well at least he just wrote a song about her not complain to her boss.
Minnie's tweet still up now at least.
There's a screenshot of a tweet of this woman saying she will try to get people fired - I could read it to see if it was connected to or predates this incident. Surely vexatious complaints if so.
