I didn’t know about this & probably can’t make it. Bumping for others

theflushedzebra · 02/03/2020 21:05

I'm very far from Edinburgh, but solidarity Wine

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/03/2020 21:21

If I can get childcare I'll be there, don't want to bring small person as I imagine there will be an unpleasant counter protest.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 02/03/2020 21:37

Likewise. DH wanted to come but he'll have to have the kids. Maybe take them to Dynamic Earth or something.

OP posts:
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 02/03/2020 21:41

Yes if I felt safe taking some of the kids it would be fine to get to.
How utterly appalling that it doesnt feel safe enough for children Sad

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/03/2020 21:42

I don't think there'll be a counter protest. I think the TRAs have realised it's not a good look to be harassing women, at least not while there's a consultation on and everyone's watching. Scottish Trans Alliance and the Equality Network are doing their darndest to appear reasonable, claiming they've always wanted to talk but us horrible women are intimidating them. I'm sure that'll change after the public consultation finishes, but for now they're cultivating the 'poor little us' look, and that doesn't sit well with unpleasant counter protesting.

NonnyMouse1337 · 02/03/2020 23:20

Parliament police are aware of the protest so I doubt there will be any aggressive or unsafe behaviour from any counter protests.
As morningtoncrescent62 says it would be counterproductive for the trans lobby to do that while the consultation is running.

I'm too far away but I did notice this event for 'humans with uteruses' at Edinburgh Science Festival. For those age 12 and above.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/03/2020 00:15

There is a thread here Lion

Yes I think you’re right Holyrood will be well policed & quite safe. (I still can’t go though Sad because I actually have all the kids & 2 don’t do crowds - I wish there had been more notice)

stumbledin · 03/03/2020 00:36

Is there a link to a fuller notice about the demo.

I've looked on the forwomen.scot site but cant see anything.

Would like to share but think some might find it hard to decide to come not know if it is demo outside the buildings, a meeting or ....

Thanks for anyone with more info or ideally a web link.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/03/2020 00:53

I have this from forwomen.scot (via email)

“SAVE OUR SINGLE-SEX SPACES

Please join us for a demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament at 2pm on Saturday 7th March (to coincide with the Scottish Women's Convention and the day before International Women's Day).

All women and men welcome. Placards provided. Fancy-dress encouraged (suffragettes, witches, whatever!).

Let's get the Scottish Government to answer some of our questions!”

I wish there had been more notice

Yes, that would have been ideal, but a number of women have had to do quite a bit of coordinating in very tight timescales in among organising other things around the consultation. Smile

lionheart · 03/03/2020 07:44

Thanks Gibbons. Smile

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 03/03/2020 09:25

Bump

Oh yes of course, I do understand why the notice is short just wishing my life was more adaptable!
I am promising myself that when my kids are grown I will make a point of attending the things I know other feminist carers might struggle to get to Smile (or maybe I will run a crèche for meetings!)

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/03/2020 11:08

A crèche to enable women to attend some of these meetings and events would be amazing!

Are you on the FWS mailing list? If you don't already have some, you can ask FWS to post you some leaflets relating to the proposed GRA reforms that you could pass along to friends and family that might be interested, or leave them around in cafes when out and about with the children.
Only a couple of weeks to go, so the more awareness the better.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/03/2020 11:49

I am thanks, I have leaflets, stickers & cards from the fabulous FWS Grin

stumbledin · 03/03/2020 13:56

Many thanks for the more detailed info and web link.

I am assuming okay to share (ie its not like asecret, surprise event).

Just wanted to post on facebook and a couple of mailing lists.

Its too far for me to be there but wanted to do something!

Hope all goes well.

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/03/2020 15:28

Yes, please share far and wide! Thanks for the well wishes. Smile

stumbledin · 03/03/2020 16:29

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 16:38

Thanks, first I’d seen of this. Might be able to go- would be my second ever protest: I’m getting proper political in my old age 😃

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/03/2020 18:28

Great to have you along, MadamePewter!

Details about demonstration were only publicised yesterday, so the word still needs to get around.
