Wrath perhaps you could identify as calm, pleased, good-humoured
peaceful?

MarchDaffs · 03/03/2020 21:20

Oh I didn't know that about the different ILEX categories! That's interesting. I have worked with one who I guess was a fellow as he did some quite complex stuff in a solicitors firm?

R0wantrees · 03/03/2020 21:21

In my own university college, everyone studying law was called a lawyer. They were called 'the lawyers' as a group

dictionary definition:
"a person who practises or studies law, especially (in the UK) a solicitor or a barrister"

So a student from their first week of a law degree onwards is a lawyer, even if they end up failing the first set of exams?

If a person were to study law outside of a law degree/qualification are they also a lawyer?

WrathofFaeKlopp · 03/03/2020 21:25

We could identify as being non-angry?

Not allowed.
Rules dontcha know.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 03/03/2020 21:27

I'll try R0, I'll try.
I am very quiet irl Grin

R0wantrees · 03/03/2020 22:08

I dont think you need to be quiet. You could presumably identify as quiet whilst being loud should you wish?

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/03/2020 22:13

Oh I do so want someone to go to that Evening of Thoughtful Discussion and report back!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/03/2020 22:14

Language is so tricky. I'd agree in a university context one might describe law students as lawyers, just as one might refer to mathematicians, medics, geographers etc. But in a work context I would expect a self- described lawyer to have some current professional qualifications.

I wonder if @Doobigetta is free? If we get kicked out due to being unable to control our histrionics, we can go straight to the pub?

Brilliant! Thank you Grin

WrathofFaeKlopp · 03/03/2020 22:42

Perhaps several people could wear a Gilderoy Lockhart masks, they would fit right in, I'm sure.

Hirsutefirs · 03/03/2020 22:57

So was the Mail brought to its right-wing knees in court today, by the flying something’s verbal thrust and parry?

I dunno, they may just have adjourned for for Justice Knowle’s to consider a decision/set a future date (especially if there are a number of potential witnesses).

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 04/03/2020 07:15

Unimaginative placemarking.

Mossyrock · 04/03/2020 08:53

All who come with an open heart and an inquiring mind will be welcomed

I always approach genderist writers and speakers thinking, 'for the love of God please convince me that this isn't as bad as it seems'.

That sort of inquiring mind isn't what they mean, is it?

boatyardblues · 04/03/2020 08:56

That sort of inquiring mind isn't what they mean, is it?

No, that’s “wrongthink”. If you can nod along and embrace it, then I think you can attend.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 04/03/2020 08:57

Yes. I’ve been wondering how I might keep a straight face as Swhittle waxes lyrical.

I suspect the answer might be one of those creepy latex women masks, of the sort that resembles a heavily filtered selfie...

Doobigetta · 04/03/2020 09:51

When is this evening of thoughtful discussion?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/03/2020 09:53

If one were to get the giggles whenever a particular not actually a lawyer spoke would one in theory be subject to contempt of court charges?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/03/2020 09:54

I always approach genderist writers and speakers thinking, 'for the love of God please convince me that this isn't as bad as it seems'.

Or possibly "I'm going to need a bigger drink if I'm to sit through the whole thing".

"The Proud Trust and the Manchester Law School welcome you to an evening of thoughtful, open discussion to discuss trans equality, its recent history, its current challenges, and where we want to go from here.

We are joined by two illustrious polymaths - Stephen Whittle OBE, Press for Change Activist and Professor of Equalities Law at the Manchester Law School, MMU; and Tara Hewitt, the Inclusion and Engagement Manager at Northern Care Alliance NHS Group and co-founder of the Trans Equality Legal Initiative.

thread 4 re Jess Bradley's suspension from NUS July 2018, OP Popchyk wrote Thu 28-Feb-19

"And an article written by Bradley's estranged wife:

www.sarahmcculloch.com/statement-jess-bradley/

Provides a lot of background and confirms that Action for Trans Health received a report of sexual assault and a further six reports of sexual misconduct of Jess Bradley.

"With ATH and NUS seemingly compromised, there is a third organisation conducting an investigation, the Proud Trust, an LGBT youth charity in Manchester who run the LGBT centre in Sidney Street among other things. I have spoken to them on the phone and they have said there are a number of safeguarding concerns which have been raised and they are receiving disclosures from any individuals who will be treated with confidence and respect, supported if they wanted the police involved but otherwise nothing will happen without the consent of the individuals involved unless they were under 18 at the time as they will have a statutory duty to disclose this".

TinselAngel · 04/03/2020 10:05

I did think about turning up to that but unfortunately it says you're not allowed to go if you're angry so that's me ruled out.

Cuntysnark · 04/03/2020 10:11

How do they assess anger? I’m extremely angry but dress it up in humour sometimes so it might be harder to detect. Occasionally I’m not angry just discombobulated. Would that allow me in?

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 04/03/2020 10:16

There will be someone on the door checking your aura for anger. Anything stronger than mardy and you're not going in.
