"While Lord Lucas’ comments sparked controversy with some, I thought it was great to hear a male MP tackling an issue and considering it from a women’s point of view. I understand the reasoning behind the introduction of gender-neutral toilets, especially when it comes to creating comfortable and safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

Certainly, if you identify as a woman, no matter what body you were born into, you should use the ladies’ loo. And vice versa."

New balls please 🎾

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 01/03/2020 21:12

Does she think males should be able to identify into women’s tennis as well?

BiologyIsReal · 01/03/2020 21:18

Very muddled thinking. I'm surprised at her. I wonder what Andy thinks about it all, considering he is so outspoken on behalf of women and is a great favourite with women players.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 01/03/2020 21:18

Huh?

Also, it's not about creating comfortable spaces for the LGBTQ+ community, it's only for the T community. Same sex preference has no bearing on which toilets people use.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 01/03/2020 21:27

Bloody hell I’m gutted I really respect(Ed) her & thought she was going to come out against the lady brain bollocks

Kikkoman · 01/03/2020 21:30

Oh feck off Judy you crowd pleaser

wellbehavedwomen · 01/03/2020 21:33

I had her views until a couple of years ago. It took the data on offending to shift my views enough to go and look into it all more.

It's been packaged as part of gay rights for a reason. Decent people support those unquestioningly.

She simply doesn't know the statistical realities, and the focus on loos is because those are the thin end of the wedge. A lot less scary at an initial glance than communal changing rooms, or dorms.

AnyFucker · 01/03/2020 21:33

Oh no Sad

anicebag · 01/03/2020 22:02

That last disappointing comment just smacks of appeasement. Unisex toilets are one (big) problem. Self ID is another. Do people who think self id is no problem are just very trusting, lack imagination of how it is abused, only see the good in people, have never been assaulted, think the risk is negligible/a worthwhile price for inclusion? Or is it that we have it now so what's the big deal?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 01/03/2020 22:06

But it’s all about choice. And I choose not to keep putting the toilet seat down.

And exactly does she think including those who ‘identify as women’ help with this particular - and valid - problem?

Mystifying swerve-ball at the end.

VortexofBloggery · 01/03/2020 23:43

Not sure why she's complaining about gender neutral loos when anyone can be a woman. If she just imagines all the men think they're women, that should do the trick.

wellbehavedwomen · 01/03/2020 23:53

She's arguing for single sex loos while signalling that she's not transphobic and more than happy for transwomen to use them.

I understand that position, because it used to be my own. If you accept that TWAW then it follows that women's loos remain women's if trans-inclusive.

Given she's raised a solidly and vocally feminist son, I suspect she just doesn't know what the situation is. Why would she? #NoDebate has been very successful. The implications aren't that widely known as yet - though becoming more so, by the day.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 01/03/2020 23:58

Martina Navratilova needs to have a word

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 02/03/2020 00:00

Andy Murray’s surgeon, who got him back playing again, is a biologically male trans person. Murray has spoken in glowing, glowing terms of his surgeon, for whom he uses female pronouns as if they were a fact.

So despite his very public support for women and women’s tennis in the past, he may now have a personal investment in following the TWAW line, which in turn could have influenced Judy’s take on it.

Or maybe they both always thought TWAW anyway. Who knows.

TwistedEyeOfHorus · 02/03/2020 17:03

"the focus on loos is because those are the thin end of the wedge. A lot less scary at an initial glance than communal changing rooms, or dorms."
And that is why we should always talk about changing rooms, mixed sex hospital wards, dormitories on school trips and pooh pooh TRA who talk about toilets.
Start with the thick end of the wedge. Or baseball bat, if you prefer.

FrogsFrogs · 02/03/2020 20:38

I think the last bit is to try and soften and avoid an all out attack on her
