Apols if this has already been posted. Written by political editor so presumably has come from on high.

"Civil servants in the Department for Communities and Local Government have now been asked to write to the British Standards Committee to ask whether technical guidance on building regulations needs to be clarified to make it explicit that women must have access to female-only facilities.

A Government source said: "It is clear that there needs to be a public service provision for everyone in our community and all people should be treated with dignity and respect.

"The Government is committed to maintaining safeguards that protect women.

"Proper provision of separate toilets for both men and for women, which has long been a regulatory requirement, should be retained and improved."

Thanks for sharing, good news.

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 21:28

Ah look -all those public authorities with their legal requirements and duties are being “gently” reminded of that. Watch for more of this...

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 21:29

Note use of “female only”. That language is carefully chosen

Polynerd · 28/02/2020 21:38

Yes, let's hope it leads somewhere.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/02/2020 21:42

Female only is exactly right.

aliasundercover · 28/02/2020 21:46

So does this mean loos for males, loos for females, and loos for trans people? Great.

Guess which ones transwomen are going to want to use? It’s literal violence if they’re not accepted.

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/02/2020 21:49

I'll wait until there's a clear definition of what they're meaning by 'female' and how easy they plan to make it to be legally female.

There's no mention there about the importance of providing third spaces.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 28/02/2020 21:50

Excellent
Anyone know if this would apply in Scotland?
(Mind you Not much help if Jimmy can go self ID as Janey & get a piece of paper that says his penis is female...)

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 22:00

I think that this indicates “transwomen” are going to the male facilities. Because “female”, in the absence of self ID means sex. It’s really interesting article because the language and where it has been posted.

“Government source” - politician

Lot of top Government people put the line of the Government in the Telegraph. I would expect more from them.

fascinated · 28/02/2020 22:08

Well, Conservative is supposed to mean preserving the status quo, so let’s hope they’ve realised that public opinion is overwhelmingly in favour of maintaining our social conventions of single sex facilities.

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/02/2020 22:09

Just clicked on the author of the article, Christopher Hope, and it brought up this (image attached. This looks to me that his first article, the one you linked to OP, went live at 6.49pm, and then at 10pm a second article has been published - "Women must be guaranteed female-only lavatories in public buildings, says minister".

Minister. Not 'government source', but MINISTER!

Aha! As predicted. Keep watching the Telegraph.

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 22:15

This is all about the “common sense” agenda against what is considered to be woke lefty stuff. They may or may not care about women, but the Tories are going to use this hurt the Labour Party, the BBC, the Civil Service etc. Indeed anyone who has lost a grip on basic biological fact.

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/02/2020 22:15

I think I'll be buying the Telegraph tomorrow.

Polynerd · 28/02/2020 22:16

Ooh! You're right. Very similar content, not sure why both versions have been left up. Here's the later link:

Well Lex I'd be happy about that.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 28/02/2020 22:24

It just struck me, what a bizarre time it is to be alive, when a statement like this is necessary.

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/02/2020 22:30

"Tories are going to use this hurt the Labour Party, the BBC, the Civil Service etc."
Normally I would care about that. These days, I blame the Labour Party etc. for being mysogynistic/naive/craven enough to be - attackable. Strange days Sad.

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 22:41

I don’t. I think they deserve much of this. They have spent their time on this utter rubbish instead of dealing with improving people’s lives.

Watch them implode unless they change tack. The Tories know a first class line when they see it;

“loony left Long Bailey says Titiania on Tuesday has your loo”.

It’s bloody gold to the Tories and they’ve realised it’s political capital

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/02/2020 22:49

Long-Bailey and Namdy signed the pledge to expel non believer's. I blame the labour party for that.
I can't blame the Tories for taking advantage of the mistakes of the labour party

wellbehavedwomen · 28/02/2020 23:00

This.

The Conservative Party are consummate survivors. They're arguably the oldest politican party in the world - roots go back to the Civil War and they're almost 200 years old in current form. They didn't achieve that by declaring that only the most virtuous deserve the honour of voting for them.

Labour've left a wide open goal. The Tories don't even need to persuade us to vote for them; Labour have explicitly told us to fuck off. After a fourth successive defeat, they're demolishing women's rights and telling any women who object to get out of the party.

As has been said, Labour are currently identifying as unelectable. And the Tories will exploit that to the hilt. Luckily for us, that means moving to the other side of this mess.

They are putting clear blue water between themselves and Labour. And bluntly, it will work. I can't ever vote Tory... but I can abstain altogether. Given Labour's present position on women's rights, I don't feel I have any other option. Not unless they perform a spectacular reverse ferret in the nearish future.

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/02/2020 23:13

We need another Kinnock.

LexMitior · 28/02/2020 23:23

I remember that time. The Labour Party nearly destroying itself. Kinnock was brave.
