Love it!

That's brilliant! I have to do a survey soon and will go for that.

I'm getting more and more perplexed about being asked for gender. I want them to define what they mean by it. It looks biological to the uninitiated, but can't be if there are any more than two categories.

Cwenthryth · 22/02/2020 07:27

Haha. Brava that programmer.

EverardDigby · 22/02/2020 07:34

Love that! Grin

ShowOfHands · 22/02/2020 07:38

I've got training at work next week and I already know it'll be the same options as usual:

Male
Female
Transgender
Non binary
Other

I cross it all out and put something different every time.

Ikeasucks · 22/02/2020 07:40

It’s when they ask gender for things that matters. I recently did a DNA test and they asked for gender - a DNA company. Also was looking at a fitness spp for running - it takes all your details to maximise running for weight loss - again asks for gender not sex. Also strangely the Labour Party joining process requires you must specify a gender, the Conservatives have no mention of gender.

EverardDigby · 22/02/2020 07:43

I might tick the other box from now on and write "I'm special" where it doesn't actually matter!

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 09:04

I like that!

I filled out a form for DS to a school volunteering thing and used the free text box. And they do bloody residential! And only 3 genders - well that’s a new one.

Which cycling app is it tiedy ?

definitelygc · 22/02/2020 10:39

I make apps and so far have made all registration forms say:

Are you:
Male
Female
Prefer not to say

No "how do you identify", no special categories. I'm waiting for someone to pull me up on it but no one has...yet.

definitelygc · 22/02/2020 10:40

Actually sorry that's wrong. I always put female before male.

Fairenuff · 22/02/2020 10:44

ShowOfHands

Could you put 'person formerly known as woman'

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 10:47

On the sons form in the ‘have you any questions’ I asked about how they could guarantee single sex of sleeping facilities if they don’t actually know the sex of the kids involved (because they didn’t bloody well ask their sex).

BolloxtoGender · 22/02/2020 11:00

Love it OP.

I put this in the comments section of our Oracle system....

^I am Gender-Free. Although my biological sex is female. [Employer Company] may want to consider changing the Oracle form so that the field is sex not gender, in order to be inclusive of ALL employees (who fall into either of the two sex categories). Only having 2 genders to pick from is not inclusive. For example Facebook has 72 genders and the number of genders is ever expanding.
For the purposes of accurate data gathering and inclusiveness, the field should be sex not gender.^

Sign of the times that I was (pleasantly) shocked when I updated my details at the dentist's. It said Sex and male/female. No mention of the stupid gender crap.

tiedy · 06/03/2020 04:49

Here's another odd one! They're getting creative

OMG that is fantastic @tiedy, did it have a sex: female male too ?

tiedy · 06/03/2020 06:45

Nope they're only interested in collecting data on gender expression. That's obviously the important thing to know when undertaking research on public transport use.

OP posts:
cordeliavorkosigan · 06/03/2020 06:49

Right. I guess they need to know the expected damage from all those stilettos so they need to know how many are "feminine". or maybe to plan out the loos...

LizA49 · 06/03/2020 07:55

The data capture form that we got from the primary school (annual, you’re really just checking it’s up to date) at the start of the year said “gender”, and gave only two options, male or female. I just scored out gender and wrote sex.
That must have given the school office a laugh, if nothing else
