Calling all barristers!

It's that time of year for barristers to renew their practicing certificates. As part of the online renewal process the Bar Council seeks information on equality and diversity, with the stated purpose of meeting its obligations under the Equality Act 2010.

The Bar Council asks:
“What is your gender?”
“Is your gender identity the same as the sex that you were assigned at birth?”

Could I encourage any barristers on here to email/tweet the Bar Council?

It was effective last year in shaming the Solicitors Regulation Authority:

By way of update, the BSB are carrying out a review of the questions on their E&D questionnaire, and are seeking feedback on their new proposed questions.
A great deal of thought has gone into the proposed questions, which are a vast improvement, so thank you to everyone who got in touch with the BSB!
However, Stonewall are going to be asked to give feedback, so it's important that GC barristers give their views too.
For anyone who hasn't been sent the proposed questions, feel free to PM me your email address so I can forward them, or if (for obvious reasons!) you'd rather not give out your email, I can PM you the email address of the individual at the BSB who is coordinating feedback.

I'm not a barrister but I've just had to complete my annual renewal for registration with the General Dental Council and the wording is almost identical: "is your gender identity the same as the gender you were assigned at birth"

I wonder if all regulators are changing the way that they ask this question and whether there is a connection.

I do like a bit of rollonfriday so had a read of the article (from April 2019) and snorted at the first comment:

Totally disagree with the criticism. This is Wonderful. I run a small, all-male firm and was worried about having to hire women. They cause problems. Especially when they get pregnant! Now I can tell half my guys to identify as women. Hey presto, a great diversity score and added kudos because I’m clearly trans friendly. Question for sra: all my staff are white. Can some of them identity as BAME? Would really help me out.
