Femi Rushes In Where Angels Fear to Tread

Some of you might recall Femi_Sorry's Brexit videos and activities.

He's now decided to leave the bounds of his competence and knowledge way behind him and enter the discussion about medical intervention for trans children.

The comments saying "They're kids. They should wait until they're adults"...🤭🙄
It's truly impressive that you can miss the point that badly. These treatments basically press pause on puberty so they don't develop the "wrong way". They can only start cross-sex treatments at 16.

Apparently, he's been on Sky News with this astonishing display of ignorance that reveals he didn't care to spend even 5 minutes Googling for a counter-factual to his pre-digested opinions.

What is happening to people?

Shame. I liked him.

ArranUpsideDown · 13/02/2020 23:02

I admired his courage and willingness to have conversations with people who disagreed with him.

However, he's skirting perilously close to #NoDebate from what I can see.

The wretched irony of this.

He doesn't know what he is talking about. Scary really...

Also, what is he on about with a body developing 'the wrong way'? This whole narrative of telling children that their healthy, perfectly functioning bodies might be 'wrong'? And that they might need to take drugs that stop those bodies from functioning perfectly to make it 'right'? What the fuck?

megletthesecond · 13/02/2020 23:11

Oh Femi. I expected better from you.

Poota · 13/02/2020 23:37

Isn't Femi the one who tweeted the clip of Jack Nicolson berating Tom Cruise about not knowing how to protect a country in A Few Good Men? Seemingly as an scorching rebuke to brexiteers? Which seemed a bit odd as Nicholson's character was the bad guy. Odd vantage point, I thought. If it's the same guy, I'm not really surprised at puddle deep understanding here.

GeordieTerf · 13/02/2020 23:46

I like Femi. I hope he does some more research on this issue.

Maduixa · 14/02/2020 00:10

Isn't he British/living in the UK? How can anyone "start cross-sex treatments at 16"? I know there's a proposal in Scotland to lower the age to start transition from 18 to 16, but that proposal is still out for public consultation, until 17 March 2020. Why is this person talking about things he has done no research on and has no knowledge about?

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 14/02/2020 00:18

I’ve just been lurking on the detrans subreddit, someone is asking questions re: blockers and tooth loss.
Studies linked were (unsurprisingly) relating to men with prostrate cancer, and yes, problems were observed. Tooth loss is less of an issue for elderly men, of course.

Harmless pause button my arse.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 14/02/2020 00:24

Kids at the Tavistock can start hormones at 16, they have to have had at least a year on blockers first (and presumably, hopefully, had a number of assessment and therapy appointments before being prescribed blockers).

At the moment, because the wait lists are so long, a kid would have to be referred by around the age of 11 to be far enough down the pathway to start cross sex hormones at 16.
