Rachel and Debs were in the First Dates restaurant. Halfway through the meal Rachel reveals that she is transgender.

Debs didnt seem to mind but it was a bit of a gamble for the show to take IMO.

It didn't seem much of a reveal. I'm sure Debs must have guessed. I don't think it's a gamble from everything else that is going on at the moment.

tbf i thought she may be but i couldnt be 100% sure.

I'm assuming it's similar to the show Naked Attraction. Participants are most likely asked beforehand about their sexual orientation and hopefully asked if they are open to dating trans people. There was a First Dates episode where it was a trans woman and a guy was pansexual, so obviously he was fine with her revealing she was trans.

i saw a trailer for it and realised straight away, I don't think anyone would be surprised by that news! As others have said, Rachel will have said she's open to dating "all kinds of women" I'm sure. Good luck to them!

What if Debs didn’t know though. She’s in a difficult position to give her reaction when Debs knows the date will be on TV. Bit of a power imbalance there

It was immediately obvious that they were trans. I hope the blonde woman had said she didn't mind, but I got the impression she'd said she didn't mind male or female. All that simpering, though... I don't know any women who behave like that.

I have to admit I did the biggest eye-roll when the transwoman referred to herself as being a "gold star lesbian."

It seems that the TW is fond of being on TV, according to this Telegraph article.

Hollow,I think that article says Rebecca had been on tv before. The transwoman was Rachel. Rachel aged 59 was paired with Deba, also 59.
The “gold star lesbian” and “virgin dater” phrases stood out.

There is no way that they wouldn't have asked Debs if she would date a trans woman.

Debs had previously been married to a man and was so open minded

I wish Debs had said, "You're a TW? So am I!"

I would've loved to have seen Rachel's expression.

Rachel would have no doubt told First Dates she wouldn't date transwomen. Rachel said she liked very feminine women with big boobs.
