Slowthai & Katherine Ryan

So this guy Slowthai (who I'd never heard of until this morning), gets an award for 'hero of the year' at the NME awards then 'paws' comedian and host Katherine Ryan whilst also making misognyist remarks. He gets called out for his behaviour by someone in the crowd so he chucks a glass in the crowd. All filmed and on social media, obviously. Then he tweets to her today a genuinely well constructed 2 part tweet apology. She says all ok, I was in control, and it was about being a comic and doing my job - NOT ABOUT being a woman (paraphrasing).

BUT, BUT, of course it was about her being a woman. I'm annoyed about all this on so many levels.

He was a disgrace, she handled it really well but she shouldn’t have had to. How fucking dare he.

I think she was trying to control him, which to be fair what choice did she have?? Trying to herd a pervy but also leery cat. He shouldn’t have been on stage he was clearly high.

What? Am I reading this right, this man threw a glass projectile at the audience, after sexually assaulting and verbally abusing a woman on stage?

What kind of ‘hero’ is that then?

It's an interesting conundrum - KR doesn't view it as sexual assault yet the video evidence very clearly shows it was.

She definitely controlled the situation but it feels like he gets a pass because KR doesn't want to be viewed in anyway as a victim which ultimately she has a right to control her own narrative.

Omg she was showing him up to be the total loser he is and he had no idea 😂

This is what is hurting my head. He gets off lightly. She was in control. She did not feel like a victim. She has been very gracious to him. Also, I can't understand her 'we need more women in power' comment. clearly we do, but I'm lost at the relevance. What we need is for blokes to not be entitled pricks. And he needs telling he was a prick. Not 'tomorrow is another day.

Personally, I’m not really one for measuring the severity (or existence!) of a crime by the actual impact on or interpretation of the victim - because that leads to the situations where sentences are woefully short or even perpetrators found innocent, if the victims of their assaults are not sufficiently visibly distraught etc. But then I don’t define myself (identify as!) a victim, just because I happen to have been a victim of assault. The assault was all to do with the assailant, not me. I want the perpetrator prosecuted the same whether I shook it off and just cracked on with my day or whether I fell apart and was signed off work for a month; if the criminal actions are the same in each case then I don’t see why the punishment should vary because of differences in how the victim responds. That’s my personal view though. Obviously with our ridiculously overstretched criminal justice system, if KR doesn’t wish to pursue the complaint then the powers that be are unlikely to take any action.
I’ve also no idea who this person is btw, what was he being heralded as heroic for?
