The death of satire is now complete

Am I the only one who can no longer tell if what I am reading is satire or someone's magical thinking? I keep thinking that the latest Labour Twitter declaration cannot be real. If it is I must be living on a completely different planet to those who are signing the ridiculous petition.

The Labour party has become the place where facts go to die and become reincarnated as crazy opinions!

When we have completely waved goodbye to objective truth how will we, as a species, survive? If I go to a hospital to have my burst appendix removed do I really want to see a surgeon who believes my appendix is located in my left big toe?

I seem to have found a list of people from one of those Twitter feeds, which shows who signed the pledge. That was up to 1PM yesterday.

Thanks andy.

The Labour party no longer exists as far as I'm concerned. I cannot vote for idiocy and lies :(

They’ve no chance of getting in to power anytime soon, they may as well say whatever they like.

NeedChoos · 12/02/2020 17:08

The thing I don’t get...is how can anyone not questions the sheer volume of comments against the manifesto. The plume of people on the #expelme....it’s mind boggling that someone at Labour HQ hasn’t gone “errr hang on. Are we totally sure about this.”

MidnightCircus · 12/02/2020 18:48

The Labour Twitter pledge makes me think that Labour don't want to win an election. Maybe they're scared of number 10? It's just baffling they've gone this route. Maybe they're thinking if they just say voters like this enough it'll turn into actual votes? That's how this works right?

ManchesterAunt · 12/02/2020 19:18

This is honestly all I could think of when I read the pledges.

Two things:

  1. It isn't actually the Labour Party who created this pledge. It is a small group of TRA.
  2. Emily Thornberry said she had not signed it but she is on that Google docs list HmmSo someone is lying

I assume two things, but don’t know if either are right:

  1. MPs don’t write or read their own tweets and get skewered feedback from the interns that posted them.

  2. MPs do write and read their own tweets but any replies which disagrees to what they posted is seen as a nod that actually, yes, people are transphobic and hateful for not agreeing with them and falling in line, and yes, what TRAs are saying is correct because: look at all the hatred and non-agreements people are giving us and so we need to push this agenda harder.

I know which one out of 1) and 2) would be more “preferable” to me.

Personally, I also find the lamenting of the downfall of the Labour Party quite confusing, in regards to specifically this. I’ve seen quite a few comments/threads on here hoping that Keir Starmer will hold strong on this issue and manage to gain power and be the next PM but if his party has control of law for five years (assumably) then that is a very long time for laws surrounding this to be made lawful. I don’t like the Conservative party and have never voted for them in my life as I disagree with their policies but this issue is such a major game changer that I don’t want Labour anywhere NEAR any sort of power until every single one of the people and hangers-on trying to push this thing forward are out.

NeedChoos · 18/02/2020 07:32

@BritneyPeedOnALadybug
I won’t vote labour (well for a host of reasons) but I want a robust opposition. We have a democracy and we need to have fair debate. This shows an utterly unelectable, unprepared and downright stupid tactic that does not resonate with voters left or right and in utter contempt for ....well running the country. There slogan of For the many is just bullshit.

Pound to a penny that the social media avatars of those signatories will be heavily skewed to anime. And all will have pronouns listed.

You misheard it. It's actually: "For the men, not for you"

(not mine, saw on FB)
