Insiders say that staff are angry at a decision to convert the traditional 'gents' and 'ladies' loos in the Westminster building for use by anyone, whatever their sex.

Oh, dear…..Grin Welcome to reality, Labour.

Hi CaptainKirksetc

We do currently have this to some degree. I think it would have become entrenched if the election had gone to Labour. The hate speech aspect is now being debated, we're still waiting for the result from Harry the Owl's court case (as far as I know?). I also don't think there are mixed loos in every workplace and public area, but I think that could have been rolled out as standard. I'm thinking Canada. I agree it's bad enough, but it can get worse.

The Tories show signs of waking up to the problems they've caused by proposing changes to the GRA and at the very least have kicked this into the long grass. Labour are still full steam ahead and calling everyone who queries them bigots.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/02/2020 10:23

Unfortunately it's going to get worse, the first signs of people waking up have happened, debates are starting but it's taken years to get to this point, we've got years of this still to go.
Unless something incredible happens and politicians magically start listening to the public, it'll get much worse before it gets better.

Melioration · 09/02/2020 10:27

This takes me back to the 1970s when my Mums friends used to come back from the local Labour Party meetings at the Working Men’s Club complaining that it had no women’s toilets.

Plus ca change and all that.

ChattyLion · 09/02/2020 10:37

Thanks for your posts Kirk. I didn’t (still don’t) feel great about voting Labour, I wrote to all the GE candidates in my constituency, got no replies. Personally spoiling/not voting wasn’t for me (fair play to those who did though) and there wasn’t any woman-supporting option to vote for.
Plus this shit as far as I’ve been aware of it (last ten years) plus the self-ID GRA consultation shitshow is all on the Tories or Tory-Lib Dem coalition in power from 2010, so they can own that. The freedom of speech ‘last warning’ for universities announcements by Gavin Williamson over the last couple of days are welcome but many years overdue and there still hasn’t been any actual government action to support women or response to the GRA consultation, so I’m not sure how much they give a shit about this.

Mockersisrightasusual · 09/02/2020 10:40

Given the dirty tricks targetting Starmer reported today, toilets may be the least of your worries when people start falling downstairs and out of windows before long.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 09/02/2020 11:12

With all the allegations that have come out, you'd think the Labour Party would exhibit a bit more due diligence as regards women's actual physical safety.

theflushedzebra · 09/02/2020 11:19

Good.

Labour HQ are living by the ideology they endorse - and surprise surprise, people aren't happy.

People don't like your policies, Labour. Not even your own members.

CharlieParley · 09/02/2020 11:33

'We will continue to ensure staff from all our diverse communities feel they belong at Labour.'

Apart from women from conservative religions who cannot share intimate spaces with men.

Apart from women from ethnicities who cannot share intimate spaces with men.

Apart from women who have been traumatised by male violence who cannot share intimate spaces with men.

Cold, callous and exclusive practices embraced by Labour in the name of diversity.

And clear discrimination against women on the basis of sex, too.

Women need toilet provision at least at the rate of 2:1 (3:1 is preferable but rare).

Let's say rather optimistically Labour HQ achieved this in the separate toilet provision until now. By declaring all toilets mixed-sex, toilet provision for many women has now fallen to 1:3, and for some women, as I explained above, it is now 0.

(That's because the urinals plus cubicles space aka the mens is almost always entirely avoided by women.)

CharlieParley · 09/02/2020 11:35

Sorry, 2:3.

Lordfrontpaw · 09/02/2020 11:59

“Apart from women” yes indeed!

Michelleoftheresistance · 09/02/2020 12:06

Apart from the females from diverse communities who we're pretending hard don't exist, 'cos they're bloody inconvenient.

Exactly Charlie

'We will continue to ensure staff from all our diverse communities feel they belong at Labour.'

How stupid do they have to be to say that and not know that everyone's going to burst out laughing at the very obvious lie there. It's like they don't have advisors.

wibdib · 09/02/2020 16:28

Anyone else hoping that it goes massively wrong in the same way that it has at the Home Office and MoJ / MoD(? Think it was that ministry). And that it ends up with problems, letters on the door, and all the other issues so that they realise first hand how horrible a situation it is for so many people.

Not that I’m wishing ill on those that are affected and I feel sorry for those that will have an unpleasant everyday working life because of this. But it might be the one thing that actually makes them stop and think and see that it’s not a simple thing that has no consequences for everyone. If there was someone who needed to sue them under the equality legislation that would be even better.

lydiamajora · 09/02/2020 16:43

Seriously? We know how they will respond. The left is now a fully functioning cult where if you dare say the wrong thing you lose your social standing, friends and even your job. Nobody will say anything.

Oh, I don't think they'll speak up. I was thinking more about that post on here a few days ago about the woke woman on reddit complaining that her female coworkers had started using the toilets elsewhere rather than using the office toilets alongside a TW.

Yes, women are going to be the ones shouldering the burden, but it may be enough to demonstrate to woke Labour women that they aren't quite as woke as they believe themselves to be. It may also show the ones who feel uncomfortable about this that they are not actually alone.

I don't know about you, but it became a lot easier for me to speak up after I realized that I wasn't the only left-leaning person to have an issue with TRA goals. It's too easy, when you're in the thick of it, to think that you're the only one who can't see the emperor's lovely new dress. Until you notice other people are also nervously averting their eyes.

lydiamajora · 09/02/2020 16:46

*correction: the women of the office were now using the disabled toilet, which was separate and designed for one person at a time.

MenopauseIsMySuperPower · 09/02/2020 23:01

I really hope the women are using the toilets with the urinals Grin

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 10/02/2020 15:25

Remember when the MP's said they would speak up before any drastic changes happened, i can't hear them?

Mossyrock · 10/02/2020 15:48

Do they not have any observant Muslim or Jewish employees at Labour HQ? This doesn't sound very supportive of diversity.

Mockersisrightasusual · 10/02/2020 15:49

I think the jews all left the building some time ago.

Mossyrock · 10/02/2020 15:50

I had the same thought just after hitting 'post', Mockers!

midclegs · 10/02/2020 16:00

The DM ratio is fairly non-surprising. I think people are really starting to cotton on now.

Pywife2 · 10/02/2020 16:10

I wonder what John McDonnell has to say about it, he seemed so sincere when he came on here promising there would be discussion within the party, women's voices would be heard etc. etc.

BatShite · 10/02/2020 18:21

Surprised this has taken so long really. Fully expect any women less than enthusiastic will be removed from the party. How progressive eh..

I thought it was widely acknowledged how needed single sex loos and such were? Isn't it one of the first things charities and such try to do when tackling large amounts of people who need help?

Amazing that stuff we already know helps women, is now being taken away and its bigoted to question it.

BatShite · 10/02/2020 18:23

Also

The announcement came from general secretary Jennie Formby to mark the start of LGBT History Month.

What a legacy eh

Why link the loss of womens rights to LGB when its solely T who wish to remove everything we fought for. LGB are going to be caught up in this backlash thats surely coming..
