This is awful. Why isn't it being reported by any mainstream western media? A couple of Indian papers and quite a few Catholic papers are covering it (because of the forced conversion aspect). I don't understand why people aren't making a bigger fuss about this, and child marriage in general. How can people still be getting away with it, legally, in the 21st century?!

Yep it's sick. The problem is, it's not reported because the media is so biased and chooses what to give headlines to etc.

We live in a very sad world where celebrity gossip takes priority in news reporting over real issues such as this.

I taught a little girl with precocious puberty who started at 6. The youngest mother in history was, I believe, 7. Precocious puberty has become more common than ever in recent years.

The article is basically saying that under Sharia law in Pakistan it's legal for a man to abduct, forcible marry and rape a child if she menstruates, while her parents wishes and the wishes, safety and protection of the child are disregarded?

Horrific way to live, knowing that your female child is exposed and vulnerable to being abducted and raped if it becomes common knowledge she has begun menarche.

Also in USA. Some states have no minimum age for marriage. Awful stories of girls being made to marry abusers/rapists.

Child rape, child marriage, what's in a name? I'm assuming that there is no law on maritalrape in Pakistan?

Horrific. Only 14, her parents object, abducted from her home...but it's okay because she's had her period? So something over which girls have no control is used against them to validate coercion and violence against them. Just awful.

Forgot to add she started mensuration at 8 months old. So according to Pakistan a baby could be married. This is sickening
