What does the CIS stand for?

I've read this, and I'm none the wiser.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisgender

The suggested analogy of Cisjordan is problematic because like the "middle-east" it quite literally assumes a western perspective. By the same logic, Iran is Cisindia, (India being 'the land beyond the Indus') and Derry/Londonderry becomes Trasnderry for the Bogside and Cisderry for the Waterside.

Don't think so.

So who are the bigoted ones in that post? Hmm

Wellintentionedreader · 02/02/2020 14:16

I thought that 'cis' was an acronym for 'clitoris in situ' .
I'm wrong , aren't I ?

Mockers2020Vision · 02/02/2020 16:26

ziss in German

Zissfrau und Zatfrau?

Rainynighthouse · 03/02/2020 06:59

Cis...Latin prefix meaning on this side of ..as opposed to trans, on the other side of.
Whatever, whichever...don't call me that. I'm a woman. That's it.

Whatever men who don't want to be men are, they are not taking our label that we suffered for, and further marginalizing me and my sisters.

Let the dang men budge up

Changename5000 · 03/02/2020 16:01

I googled

Cisgender (sometimes cissexual, often abbreviated to simply cis) is a term for people whose gender identity matches the sex that they were assigned at birth. For example, someone who identifies as a woman and was assigned female at birth is a cisgender woman. The term cisgender is the opposite of the word transgender.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/02/2020 21:06

Surely a woman could identify as non-binary and therefore be neither trans or cis? As non-binary can be defined as rejecting gender. Or am I missing something?

Florabritannica · 03/02/2020 21:12

Waving from Pedants’ Corner-
Etymologically, ‘cisgender’ is a nonsense because unlike (say) the Alps, ‘gender’ is a descriptor not a boundary. You can be ‘this side of the Alps’ but not ‘this side of gender’.

8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
9th rule of misogyny: Men always know the "real reasons" for everything women do and say.

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 03/02/2020 21:24

Sex role stereotypes are neither objects nor isomers that humans can be required to occupy a position on the near or far side of depending on how well they perform them.

MimiLaRue · 03/02/2020 21:28

If you want someone to respect and use the pronouns and labels you want them to use for you, you need to equally respect and use the labels the other person chooses for themselves

This x a million. You cannot demand to self identify yourself and then decide to self identify OTHERS according to what you think they are. That just makes you a giant hypocrite

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 03/02/2020 21:33

Pronouns cannot function as correction fluid for those who are dissatisfied with reality.
I find these kinds of public demands to obey, or face discipline, creepy in the extreme. "There are four light".
