I just read this article on the BBC which sets out the story of Billy Tipton who I had never heard of before but was a jazz musician who the article says was a female who lied to their partners and children about their biological sex.
I find the article really rather troubling, it celebrates Billy saying Perhaps he wanted to prove how gender is in the eye of the beholder, and in the mind of the individual, and about so much more than just anatomy.
How can such a serious lie be celebrated by this reporter with no thought to issues of consent regarding Billy’s partners who, it appears, believed they were in a relationship with a male?
