Instead of AFAB we should use OFAB - Observed Female At Birth.

Instead of AMAB we should use OMAB - Observed Male At Birth.

Born male
Born female

Short and accurate.

Sexual Status:

XX
XY
It's Complicated

BoneyBackJefferson, saying that a person was Male At Birth allows the concept that they could have changed since then. Like, say, Bald At Birth.

Truly, I would like to simply use woman, man, female, male. But these terms are being colonised and abused until it can be unclear what sex a person actually is. Transwomen were Observed Male At Birth. Nobody assigned them a sex. They have not changed sex, no matter what they would like us to think or say. And when a report about a transwoman is littered with 'her', 'she' and 'woman', we need a way to make it clear that those words are all compelled speech. To clarify that 'she' was observed to be male when 'she' was born, and nothing about 'her' being male has changed.

All pettyfogging linguistcs, anyway. I just want to get away from the nonsense of a sex being assigned at birth. So FAB/MAB, BF/BM, would all also be better that AFAB/AMAB.

I agree.

I also think that we should/must stop using gender when we mean sex.
