That is really poor. Purposely leaving out pertinent facts isn't journalism, its propaganda. I can't believe I used to donate to them.

I know. I'm in despair too, dragging myself out of it every morning, but I wake up scared, and go to bed scared. Not only are we on fire, not only has climate change arrived here - and this is at 1degree only! -we have a government who won't do anything about it, and every progressive in the country thinks the right of drag queens to library story time is a civil rights issue.

I don't want to comment on this story particularly, out of respect for the young man's family.

I feel sorry for the young man, his family and friends.

Yes, his political affiliations are irrelevant really (and other than agreeing that drag is not for kids, he and I were probably political enemies and not political friends). Doesn't matter. There's a shattered family out there.

It could be just that they don't tell the children their full name because as mentioned, it's inappropriate.

How is that content even allowed to stand.

It's a sad story, but I'm not convinced that it was appropriate or desirable for a bunch of right- wing " Young Liberals" to converge on a children's story- reading session at a library, chanting at the readers.

If they didn't like the choice of readers they should have marched up and down outside with placards, or maybe approached the organisers of the reading session. I'm sure the kids would have been more seriously affected by the Young Lib crowd than by the drag queens.

I'm sure the boy who killed himself must have had serious personal troubles. He was a very vocal " anti gay marriage" speaker last year , which made him a target since he was gay. Who knows why this event pushed him over the edge - I'm sure it wasn't just this one thing.

I agree that the protest should have been held away from the children.

There was a minority of gay men and lesbian women who were opposed to gay marriage, and they weren't all conservative. Valid point of view.

The name " Diamond Goodrim" was an obvious play on the name of the very well-known ( to Aussies) pop singer , Delta Goodrem. I'm pretty sure that the library kids would have heard it as Goodrem too. No need to worry that the kiddies were sullied by a naughty drag name.

Sexualisation of children does not rely on them “getting it”. It’s inappropriate, just as it’s inappropriate that a girl wears a t shirt with “little slut” on it even if she doesn’t get it. And if it wasn’t a problem, why didn’t the Guardian publish the full name?
