I've just filled in their post-performance online questionaire.

  1. Are you Female -Male -Prefer not to say
  2. How do you identify as your gender .... Femail ... Male ... Prefer Not to SAy...

Love that they recognise Biological reality, as well as how people see themselves. Especially impressed as they are an arts organisation and I thought they had all gone full Woke.

If only the NHS would start doing the same...

Don’t tempt fate, they might not have had a visit from the “big plate of crazy for breakfast” types yet.

Ballet is presumably the performing art in which more than any other, the reality of dimorphic bodies is crystal clear - while also having a long history of gender nonconformism?

Hoppinggreen · 12/01/2020 16:38

I just filled in a form for a voluntary role with The Police
They ask the same

BolloxtoGender · 12/01/2020 16:39

Are these glimpses of hope?!

SheShriekedShrilly · 12/01/2020 16:41

Despite it’s very girly image, ballet has actually been fantastic for my somewhat GNC dd. It is (at the highest levels) of course about the body shape, but at her level (and if taught well) it’s more about what you can do, how you can improve, your musicality and expression etc.

Perhaps it’s because the reality of dance at even a serious amateur level is very physical, very hard work, not at all floaty / dainty / pretty. It’s much more sweat and grubby ballet shoes and knackered tights with holes in. With the odd tutu thrown in, for special occasions.

It’s good, obviously, but honestly - what a world we live in when we have to hail this as progress, eh?

pearlkent · 12/01/2020 20:31

I wouldn't get too excited - I've been reliably informed that their toilets have gone (badly, ie. ill-thought-out) gender-neutral/mixed, at least in the cafe part.
I'm going next weekend (with stickers) so will report back...

Must be a big thing at Sadler’s Wells given the performances they put on.

AutumnRose1 · 12/01/2020 20:54

pearl oh no! I was just there in October!!

let us know what you find. I can't recall any loo usage, lol, but would obviously have noticed any issues. We went to a bar first so actually, on reflection I don't think we needed to use the loos.

nevermorelenore · 16/01/2020 12:13

I was at the Sadlers Wells in Islington last year and thought the loos were pretty good. It's a newer building so there was a big row of ladies toilets, certainly more than you'd find in older theatres. I hope they don't mess with the layout as it seemed to work well.

Looks like a case of pleasing all but anyone who doesn’t believe in biological reality will likely select the same choice for both questions even if it isn’t true.
