Emma Underwood from the LGBT foundation called it a mental health condition and (I paraphrase) also wants GPS to be empowered to prescribe medication to fast track through the waiting lists. (I'm assuming Emma meant hormones and not anti-depressants?)

Andrea Halliday said something about it not being sexual and it not being about dressing up as fairies and the cutaway footage showed Andrea dress up as perhaps it was Snow White in a pink dress?

Conflicting messages here.

(I hope the wife and children are doing ok)

Melroses · 10/01/2020 20:46

That is quite shocking. Shock

OldCrone · 10/01/2020 21:08

They don't seem to be able to be consistent about this, do they? But if they want medication, then it must be a health condition, either mental or physical. And it's clearly not a physical health condition.

OhHolyJesus · 10/01/2020 22:09

Exactly Old and the LGBT Foundation spokesperson has contradicted the WHO as they declassified it as a mental health condition.

I'd be fine if it was anti-depressants being prescribed, esp if suicidal (actually I'm anti anti-depressants but I'm not judging those who need them) and I would have appreciated some clarity on what Emma was talking about, perhaps the presenters should have been proper journalists?

Also the NHS is doing its best according to both Andrea and Emma and yet they both say more should be done and essentially it's not good enough and they need more and faster to be made to feel like they matter (Andrea).

No trans men, 2 women, 4 biological males in that piece.

Some interesting comments to this article in Pulse (GP magazine).

(I was able to register as a non GP to read it)

At least one GP commentator assures us it Isnt a mental illness.

So if it's not a mental illness or a physical ailment why are the NHS paying to treat it?

OldCrone · 10/01/2020 22:59

Only one as far as I can see. The others all think that treating a mental disorder with hormones and surgery is inappropriate and that NHS money could be better spent elsewhere.

OldCrone · 10/01/2020 23:00

So if it's not a mental illness or a physical ailment why are the NHS paying to treat it?

That's one of those questions which has been asked many times but never answered.

TimeLady · 11/01/2020 09:34

I'm wondering if the decision to include the footage of Andrea in her partying clobber was a subliminal GC message by the editorial team.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2020 09:48

I was wondering that too, it was very interesting the way they matched up Andreas words with the imagery they had. Very effective I thought.

I should be used to this by now. But somehow I still find a man stating that he is obviously a woman because he has a liking for feminine stuff like make up offensive. Why should this man be able to identify into my sex class. He is stealing my identity and leaving me with no way to describe myself as distinct from men. Why does anyone find that acceptable?

Fieldofgreycorn · 18/01/2020 01:51

Military. Again.

BigotMcBigotFace · 18/01/2020 02:10

SadlyMissTaken I agree 100%.
But why does anyone find that acceptable? I suspect misogyny...
