This is so bloody sad. 25 is no age.

Whilst this is really awful, I'm a bit uncomfortable talking about this persons suicide. As I understand it, the media are not really supposed to report on the reasons behind someone's suicide, and it's something that comes up a lot on here when transactivists claim that xyz caused someone to kill themselves. And I think that works both ways to be honest.

Point taken about not attributing causes to suicides, CallofDoodee - I imagine that’s why my post was removed though I can’t recall exactly what I’d said.

Any young suicide is such a tragedy whatever the cause, poor kid.

I wonder if this person was given Roaccutane for the acne. It's a known cause of ideation, I believe.

This is not the first case like this in the last year or so.

Jayden Lowe committed suicide after illegal treatment from Helen Webberley - the doctor Mermaids had as a recommended clinician until she fled to Spain to set up an online pharmacy that posts hormones to patients

An entire generation of troubled young people is being betrayed by the very professionals who should be helping them. This is our century's lobotomy scandal.

OldCrone · 10/01/2020 13:54

We are repeatedly being told by the trans lobby that transgender people become suicidal due to a lack of medical treatment, yet there is increasing evidence that the treatment doesn't help.

This was posted on the Robert Winston thread about things he was saying over 2 years ago.

twitter.com/bayswatersg/status/1215326127457173505?s=21

Lord Winston expressed concern about medically transitioning young people without having "really defined what is really wrong: what is the cause for people seeking gender reassignment? Until we define the problem, I think we're going to have a very blunderbus problem.”

Lord Winston continued: "when you start taking off breasts, a large number - probably 23% according to a very recent paper - feel uncomfortable about what they've done, and I think those sorts of issues are important.”

"Then of course, what I've been seeing in a fertility clinic are of course the long-term results of often very unhappy people who now feel quite badly damaged.”

There is an idea among some professionals that it's inappropriate to question the why behind dysphoria. The report that closed the Toronto gender clinic, written by a couple of child psychologists, stated this explicitly, that it was for psychiatrists to accept, not question, the gender identity, and this was one of the reasons they said the practice there was inappropriate.

In the UK they've all had to sign up to this 'Memorandum of Understanding' on conversion therapy..

www.psychotherapy.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/UKCP-Memorandum-of-Understanding-on-Conversion-Therapy-in-the-UK.pdf

For the purposes of this document ’conversion therapy’ is an umbrella term for a therapeutic approach, or any model or individual viewpoint that demonstrates an assumption that any sexual orientation or gender identity is inherently preferable to any other, and which attempts to bring about a change of sexual orientation or gender identity, or seeks to supress an individual’s expression of sexual orientation or gender identity on that basis.

I agree that saying any suicide is for one specific reason is against reporting restrictions on suicide. I dont want to thread police, but could you consider getting mnhq to revise the thread title?

JolyonsChickensAreBigots · 10/01/2020 16:30

Terribly sad, I worry that medical professionals are failing some of these young people.

We need to be able to have a more open discussion about cause nad effect with proper accurate statistics to be able to determine what treatment is effective for these young people but that seems impossible at the moment without some being called transphobes and their careers threatened

Thinkingabout1t · 11/01/2020 10:39

Langcleg “Treating a young person with anxiety and issues relating to body image and identity integrity with a medication known to often cause acute acne? This enrages me so much I can barely type.“

Let alone the other drugs and surgery - beyond irresponsible, this whole new trans policy towards children‘s healthcare. When did sanity go out of the window?
