Great British Intelligence Test

By the BBC

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-50896542

After you do the quiz it asks loads of demographic questions before giving you your result. One of the questions is ‘what is your sex? Male/female’

I noticed this a few times - when dealing with actual science even the bbc occasionally manages to recognise that sex is important/relevant.

The BBC has provided a question with two just possible answers, female or male.

Not a difficult question.
Not a complex question.
Not even an exclusively science question.

Just facts.

And now people have started to notice the difference.

WrathoFaeKlop · 01/01/2020 21:31

And now people have started to notice the difference
... between sex and gender.

drspouse · 01/01/2020 22:05

I got "other" as an option too.

Sexequality · 01/01/2020 22:18

Oh. I didn’t. Wonder if the bbc stasi noticed that unapproved language had slipped in and set Winston to work?

OP posts:
ScrimshawTheSecond · 01/01/2020 22:18

I'm really embarrassingly shite at this game. How do the bleepy blocks even work?

[misses the point entirely]

I was looking forward to getting to the male/female question, too! But am giving up in disgust going to try again when a bit less tired.

Sexequality · 01/01/2020 22:21

Now I get this

ScrimshawTheSecond · 01/01/2020 22:41

Oh, they've sent the robots in to replace male/female with a shimmering rainbow of glxrious genderfeels.

Toomanytears · 01/01/2020 22:51

It offers 'other' now Sad

hipsterfun · 02/01/2020 02:06

It offers 'other' now

Well, there’s your intelligence test right there...

Male. Tick
Female. Tick
Other. Whoops! Something has gone wrong with your understanding of reality!!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/01/2020 08:18

Grin hipster

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 02/01/2020 08:50

Other? Here, have these robot crab hands, they should match your sense of reality nicely.

ClairesKimono · 02/01/2020 08:55

Well I cannot even get it to load so OP I expect the sex and 'gender' options are being expanded as we speak...the outrage will have rained down upon the BBC.

Melioration · 02/01/2020 09:35

It goes straight to the blocks for me now.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/01/2020 10:49

Argh, back to the blocks, it's like Sisyphus.

Or is it Sissyfuss, my spelling's not great.

ClairesKimono · 02/01/2020 10:51

Sissyfuss Grin

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/01/2020 10:52

Maybe this is one of those meta-tests, where they're actually gauging how much of an uproar is created by the use of male/female, and the 'tests' themselves are actually completely meaningless.

Fairenuff · 02/01/2020 18:54

I deliberately gave incorrect information on those because data is pointless now. If they are going to disregard sex then I might as well make up my age, location, etc. Although at the end they do ask if you gave false information so I guess they won't use my data which is fine with me Grin

Sexequality · 02/01/2020 19:10

Although at the end they do ask if you gave false information

I gave false information but didn’t feel the need to be suddenly truthful when asked if I had given false information Wink

What did they mean by ‘false’ anyway? I was identifying with the answers!

OP posts:
Apileofballyhoo · 02/01/2020 19:42

Dunno what sex has to do with intelligence anyway.

stumbledin · 02/01/2020 19:50

Sort of related by YouGov has changed its feedback form. They still ask your sex (with no footnotes like the census saying sex can be what you want not what you were born) but now have 3:
Male
Female
Intersex

But they have added an additional category asking your identity but dont have a space to space to say Dont Identify. I tried to write in the Other section about identity being a social construct but ran out of space.

They may have had this for a while. I rarely bother to do their surveys as it is all about consumerism. I joined up niavely thinking I would be able to input my thoughts on politics. [blsuh]

Sexequality · 02/01/2020 20:24

Dunno what sex has to do with intelligence anyway.

I don’t know when Went to my private tab and filled it in as a male my results were a lost worse!

OP posts:
Artykitty666 · 02/01/2020 20:33

Surely you fill it in as you feel fit? And in that way data is gathered. Maybe it'll turn out that people who prefer to identify as other are above or below average. Or male or female. Or employed. Or between a certain age bracket. How would we know if the question isn't asked? Seems daft to me to object to a question.

drspouse · 02/01/2020 21:29

Dunno what sex has to do with intelligence anyway.

If IQ tests measure men as more intelligent than women, or vice versa, they are usually labelled as biased - they'd be admitting more men (or more women) into Civil Service jobs etc. that use this kind of test as an entrance test (well, at least they did in the past I believe, not sure now!)

WrathoFaeKlop · 02/01/2020 21:41

Do they ^actually^ ask if you gave false information?

Is that to uncover your gender identity?
How very dare they. Grin

Melroses · 02/01/2020 23:33

Dunno what sex has to do with intelligence anyway

More to do with intelligence tests. When I did the 11+ many moons ago, it was fiddled so that enough boys passed, otherwise the grammar schools would have been filled with girls. Not sure they would have done the same if more boys passed the test than girls Hmm
