A bit of a good news story for women in darts for Christmas - 25-year-old Fallon Sherrock made history on Tuesday by becoming the first woman ever to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship and this evening has gone even further by winning her second round match as well.

As you can imagine, there are a few men who aren't too happy about this, e.g. Gerwyn Price saying of her first-round win that ‘She hasn’t beat a man, she’s beat a young boy with the crowd on his back’ metro.co.uk/2019/12/20/gerwyn-price-fallon-sherrock-hasnt-beat-man-beat-young-boy-crowd-back-11938369/ but the Ally Pally crowd has proved not to be so sexist and has got behind her.

Im so pleased to hear this. I wish Sky would do pay per view so I could have watched her. It was an incredible match apparently.
I did hear that the crowd were very much behind her.

She’s also donating the board(?) from her first match to be auctioned off for the national autism society.

She is brilliant.

I know three men (including DH) who are really into darts and all three of them have posted how excited they are for her on FB and cheering her on.

Sadly not surprised some men are threatened by her 🙄

Ha, ha ‘a boy’, only three years younger than her. Mensur Suljovic is 47 and world no. 11 though, so wonder what the excuse is this time? Nice to see the first round opponent she beat had lovely things to say about her win though so they’re not all such dinosaurs. Fingers crossed for the next round!

I used to play darts for a female college at university in a college league. The amount of matches we won because the opposition assumed that a bunch of girls would be hopeless so they didn't bother to focus. 30 years on it's good to see a woman winning.

Oh the nastiness on SM that she didn't win fairly because the crowd boo-ed Mensur... It's like they've never seen darts before.

So chuffed for her.

I watched this with DH (don’t usually watch darts myself). Very interesting to watch a woman take on a ‘male’ game where size and strength don’t give an advantage. She can clearly focus under pressure, staying cool, so could get to the very top at some point!
