Laurence Fox: one more reason

Always liked the lad, admittedly for shallow reasons.

He's a fur lined, ocean going GC on twitter and of course facing no rape threats.

JKR
Ricky Gervais
Laurence Fox

David Baddiel (tipping zone but still)

Any advance?

This makes me SO HAPPY. I’ve always liked him too. I might go and see one of his gigs now!

Great stuff, Laurence.

SidJS · 21/12/2019 12:45

What’s David Baddiel’s input on this?

MorrisZapp · 21/12/2019 12:47

Baddiel is against cancel culture and pro free speech. He hasn't said anything GC yet but we're waiting in hope. He's tweeted in support of JKR, from a free speech point of view.

I fancy him even more now Blush

GirlsInGreen · 21/12/2019 12:50

At last the men are speaking: Can I say I'm deeply disappointed more sportsmen & gay men are not speaking out.

2020 I'm hoping for more💪 Puulll

I'm not on Twitter so when I saw the thread title, my heart sank because I feared the worst.

Faith. Restored.

Love him.

CrissmussMockers · 21/12/2019 13:00

If you like LF for shallow reasons, you should watch "The Hole," in which Keira Knightly waits longer than strictly necessary before handing him his towel in the shower.

(He is an impressive lad.)

instagramwilleatitself · 21/12/2019 13:44

I've read some interviews with him and decided to file him under “when you make friends with your your enemy's enemy, you end up in bed with very unpleasant people as a result”. That's not where I want to get to as it undermines the credibility of argument longer term.

He's clearly pissed off with the divorce from billy piper and how it went and has more than a whiff of an MRA to him in the way he speaks.

I don't think his goal goes any further than pissing off woke folk. Which is fine but there very little other purpose there and from what I read I have a strong sense of his dislike/resentment of women, some Christian vibes (not in itself wrong but his dad was an evangelical Christian and they are not known for their endorsement of gender equality) and random love of Ann Widdecombe's rants dismissing sexual abuse as whinging.

He's not Glinner, that's for sure.

LangCleg · 21/12/2019 14:44

Neither do I.

But he's got a very funny turn of phrase, so I'm taking it. A range of people are going to disagree with Wokeism. They don't have to be a socialist feminist like me for that to be allowed.

There is an existing thread about this at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3773172-Laurence-Fox-actor-Stands-With-Maya

If you are interested to see points made earlier.

I'm not saying he's not allowed. He can do what he wants. But I don't buy him as a supporter, if that makes sense. And I do think endorsing his gobbing off is damaging as it helps classify GC as some sort of alt right thing. Which it isn't. But it helps the wokers to tell mainstream that it is in order to discredit it.

Ironically something that stuck with me was that he said he didn't feel "posh" so he wasn't posh. He was, in effect, trying to identify himself out of class category because it doesn't fit with the rebel without a cause image he's trying cultivate Grin

instagramwilleatitself · 21/12/2019 15:15

X post. I'll check out the thread.

For the umpteenth time, this is a guilt by association fallacy. And because I can't be arsed to type it out all yet again, see my posts on this thread:

instagramwilleatitself · 21/12/2019 18:08

Right. I posted on this thread without checking on other threads, just in case you had an opinion about it. Wink

Except, guilt by association is a real thing. This is how Labour got itself into antisemitism. Anyone saying anti-capitalist stuff - yay! Anyone, literally anyone being pro-Palestine? Yay! Turns out some of these folks are massive antisemites while saying all these other things we agree with. Oh dear. As evident right now with LP, it's suddenly very hard to disassociate their values from those they were in bed with because they shared an enemy. To a disastrous effect. Nick Cohen wrote about it years ago in quite a prescient way in “What’s Left?”

Tactically yes, it may feel good that there are any voices in GC favour. Strategically, not so much.
